Looking ahead: planned improvements for Dundrum
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is progressing a number of upgrades and improvements for Dundrum over the coming months and years, aimed at enhancing the village. The projects are guided by the Dundrum Local Area Plan and form part of the Council’s wider vision for a vibrant, inclusive, sustainable and well-connected town.
The planned works will build on projects already in planning, including the DLR Connector scheme, while also laying the groundwork for further improvements to Dundrum in the future.
A key focus will be on improving how people move around Dundrum, whether travelling by public transport, walking, cycling or using the road network. Plans will also seek to enhance the village environment through new landscaping and public spaces, alongside improvements to accessibility and road safety.
Among the benefits planned for the area are:
- Improved bus services
- New landscaping in Dundrum Village
- New and enhanced public spaces
- Formalisation of the temporary road layout
- More accessible urban design
- Better walking and cycling connections
- Safer junctions and updated road design.
Together, the projects will help create a safer, greener and more accessible Dundrum, while supporting the continued development of the village as an important residential, commercial and community centre within Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown.
To minimise disruption and ensure the public has clear and timely opportunities to engage, these projects will be delivered sequentially rather than all at once.
Each project will have its own separate planning and consultation process. As individual projects progress, more detailed information and design proposals will be made available, with the public invited to share their views and feedback during the relevant consultation periods.
Together, these projects will support the delivery of the long-term vision set out in the Local Area Plan, helping to ensure that Dundrum continues to be a vibrant, inclusive, sustainable and attractive place to live, work and visit.
