Starter Home Supports

Exploring your housing options?

Government supports are available to help people buy, rent and renovate homes.

The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage has launched the Starter Home Supports campaign, bringing together five Government housing schemes that support people at different stages of their housing journey.

The campaign aims to make it easier for people to understand the range of supports available and identify which options may be suitable for their circumstances.

The supports include

For Buyers

• Starter Home Purchase Scheme – Shared equity support provided through local authorities.
• Help to Buy Scheme – A tax refund to assist with a home deposit.
• First Home Scheme – Shared equity support for eligible purchasers buying on the private market.

For Renters

• Cost Rental Scheme – Affordable rental homes designed for middle-income households.

For Renovators

• Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant – Financial support to help bring vacant and derelict properties back into use.

In Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown, the Starter Home Purchase Scheme forms part of the wider Starter Homes Programme, helping eligible purchasers bridge the affordability gap when buying a newly built home. The scheme supports sustainable communities by creating more opportunities for home ownership within the county.
