Dún Laoghaire Achieves Strong Result in 2025 IBAL Anti-Litter League Survey

 

Dún Laoghaire has been ranked 11th nationally and rated “Clean to European Norms” in the final results of the 2025 Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL) Anti-Litter League survey. This achievement reflects the ongoing commitment to maintaining a clean and welcoming environment for residents and visitors alike. The result is a testament to the dedication and hard work of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council’s cleansing teams, the implementation of new public realm initiatives, and the invaluable efforts of local Tidy Towns groups. The strong support of local business groups has also played a significant role in achieving this outcome.

 

Speaking about the result, Cllr Jim Gildea, Cathaoirleach, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council said:


“We welcome this positive result from the IBAL survey, which is a clear testament to the commitment and hard work of our Council cleansing teams. The invaluable efforts of local Tidy Towns groups, along with the strong support from local business groups, have also played a significant role in achieving this outcome. This recognition is something the entire community can take pride in, reflecting the combined efforts of many working together to maintain and enhance the quality of our environment. We remain committed to working with community partners to further improve cleanliness standards and enhance the public realm across the county”.

 

Highlights: Seven top-ranking sites, including George’s Street Lower, dlr LexIcon & environs, and Myrtle Square all described as freshly presented and in excellent order.

 

Grade A Locations:

 

  • N31 Seapoint – scenic route, no litter issues
  • Myrtle Square – clean, well-maintained town centre space
  • George’s Street Upper – virtually litter-free
  • Glenageary Road Lower – minimal litter despite roadworks
  • dlr LexIcon – exceptional upkeep, complete absence of litter
  • Dún Laoghaire DART Station – spotless platforms and bins
  • Deposit Return Scheme at SuperValu – pristine facility

 

Areas Needing Attention:

 

  • Brock’s Lane – Grade C+, heavily littered, graffiti present
  • Approach from Monkstown – Grade B, food-related litter near town centre
  • Eden Park Recycling Facility Car Park – Grade B, perimeter areas with long-lie litter
