Traffic and Roadworks Update: 22 to 28 August 2026

Road users in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown are advised to plan ahead this week. Several road closures, roadworks and temporary traffic arrangements will be in place across the county.

This update covers the main traffic impacts expected between Saturday, 22 August and Friday, 28 August 2026. Information is correct as of 4pm on Thursday, 20 August 2026. 

Please note that emergency works cannot be forecast. 

Wyattville Link Road speed limit

A temporary 50 km/h speed limit remains in place on the westbound Wyattville Link Road, between Cherrywood Avenue and the Cherrywood M50 southbound slip road.

The reduced speed limit is needed for the construction of the Wyattville Link Road underpass, which is part of the Beckett Link Road Project. It will remain in place until 30 November 2026, or until the work is completed, whichever is earlier. 

Proposed road closure

• Ballybrack Road, Glencullen - The Council has received an application to temporarily close part of Ballybrack Road, from Glencullen Adventure Centre to Zipit at Tibradden, on Thursday, 10 September 2026, from 7pm to 8pm. Access to Glencullen Adventure Centre and Zipit Adventures will remain available. The proposed closure is needed for a community fundraising 5km road race organised by Dublin Mountain Community Centre and Stars of Erin GAA Club.

Current road closures and traffic arrangements

• Castle Street, Dalkey - Castle Street will be closed between the Church of the Assumption car park and the former Allied Irish Bank on Saturday, 22 August and Sunday, 23 August. The closure will operate from 10am to 7pm each day. It is required to provide a safe, family-friendly space for the Dalkey Lobster Festival. Pedestrian and local access will be maintained, and diversion routes will be signposted
• Laneway between Blackrock DART Station and Blackrock Park - The laneway between Blackrock DART Station and Blackrock Park will be closed from Monday, 24 August to Friday, 28 August 2026. The closure is needed for ground investigation work. Diversion routes will be clearly signposted.
• Brennanstown Road - Brennanstown Road remains closed between Carrig Glen Estate and Old Bray Road until Monday, 24 August 2026. The closure is needed to complete surface-water drainage work. Pedestrian and local access will be maintained, and diversions will be signposted. 
• Mounttown Road Lower, Dún Laoghaire - A temporary one-way system remains in place on Mounttown Road Lower. Traffic can travel northbound from Kill Avenue towards York Road. Southbound traffic must use the signposted diversion routes. This arrangement is needed to complete the Dún Laoghaire Central Active Travel Scheme and is expected to remain in place until 30 October 2026. Pedestrian and local access will be maintained. 

Longer-term road closures

The following closures remain in place:

• Laneway from Marino Avenue East to Station Road, Killiney: Closed until 1 September 2026 for resurfacing work.
• Brides Glen Road, Shankill: Closed between Rathmichael Road and Mullinastill Road until 26 September 2026 for the installation of a new watermain.
• Enniskerry Road, R117, Kilternan: Closed between Kilternan Country Market and Our Lady of the Wayside Church until 28 August 2026 for road realignment and carriageway upgrades.
• Wyattville Link Road westbound: Traffic arrangements remain in place between Cherrywood Avenue and the M50 southbound slip road until 30 November 2026 for the Beckett Link Road Project.
• Glenamuck Road, Carrickmines: The closure between Brambledown and the Enniskerry Road junction remains in place. Pedestrian and local access will be maintained, and diversions will be signposted.

• Barnaslingan Lane: The lane is permanently closed to through traffic at its junction with the Glenamuck Link Distributor Road. Access for pedestrians and cyclists is maintained.

   

Main roadworks and lane restrictions

Traffic management measures will be in place at the following locations. These may include Stop/Go systems, temporary traffic lights, lane restrictions and local diversions.

• Mount Merrion Avenue and Sydney Avenue, Blackrock - Pipe rehabilitation work will continue until 3 September 2026, from 10am to 4pm. The traffic lights will be temporarily switched off while work is taking place. A Stop/Go system will be used. 
• Rathmichael Road - Preparatory work for a new Uisce Éireann watermain connection will take place from 24 to 28 August, between 8am and 8pm. A Stop/Go system will operate during the day. Temporary traffic lights will operate overnight. 
• Granville Road, Kilbogget - Footpath work will continue until 28 August, between 10am and 4pm. A Stop/Go system will be in operation. 
• Marino Avenue West to Station Road, Killiney - Road resurfacing will continue until 1 September, between 10am and 4pm. A Stop/Go system will be in operation. 
• The Poplars and Quinn’s Road, Shankill - ESB trenching and ducting work will continue until 28 August, between 10am and 4pm. A three-way Stop/Go system will be in place. 
• N11 northbound near Leopardstown Road - ESB ducting work will continue along the grass verge and cycle path until 11 September, between 8am and 6pm. A Traffic Management Plan will be in place. 
• Clarence Street, Dún Laoghaire - Road reinstatement work will continue until 28 August, between 10am and 4pm. Two-way traffic management will be in place. 

Road maintenance work

Road and footpath maintenance will take place at the following locations from Monday, 24 August to Friday, 28 August:

• Murphy’s Lane, Puck’s Castle Lane, Barrack Road and Kiltiernan Road, Rathmichael: Surface dressing between 8am and 6pm.
• St Brigid’s Park and Mart Lane, Cornelscourt: Footpath work between 8am and 6pm.
• Stonemasons Way and Broadford Road, Ballinteer: Footpath repairs between 8am and 6pm.
• Upper Kilmacud Road, beside Knocknashee: Road patching between 10am and 4pm.
• Laneway between Slieve Rua Drive and Annaville Drive, Stillorgan: Resurfacing between 8am and 6pm. Access to the laneway will be restricted.

Traffic management will be in place at each location. 

Reinstatement work

Short-term reinstatement work is also planned at the following locations:

• National Rehabilitation Hospital, Rochestown Avenue: 24 August, from 10am to 4pm.
• Dale Road, Stillorgan: 25 August, from 8am to 6pm.
• Knocknashee, Goatstown: 25 August, from 8am to 6pm.
• Highfield Park, Dundrum: 25 August, from 8am to 6pm.
• St Begnet’s Villas, Dalkey: 26 August, from 10am to 4pm.
• Ballinclea Heights, Killiney: 26 August, from 8am to 6pm.
• Shanganagh Vale, Loughlinstown: 26 August, from 8am to 6pm.
• Abbey View, Monkstown: 27 August, from 8am to 6pm.
• Oliver Plunkett Road, Dún Laoghaire: 27 August, from 8am to 6pm.
• Lakelands Road, Stillorgan: 28 August, from 10am to 4pm.
• Holy Cross, Upper Kilmacud Road: 28 August, from 8am to 6pm.

Stop/Go arrangements or road narrowing will apply where required. 

Ongoing major works

• Galloping Green, Stillorgan - ESB ducting work associated with the Kingscroft development is continuing and is expected to last for approximately five to six weeks from 10 August 2026. The bus lane, cycle lane and adjoining grass verge will be closed beside the work area. The footpath will remain open for pedestrians. 
• Cherrywood Campus - Foul sewer installation work will continue until 28 August, between 8am and 6pm. A Stop/Go system will be in place. 
• Churchtown Road Upper - Road and footpath improvements near De La Salle College will continue until 11 September, between 10am and 4pm. A Stop/Go system will be in operation. 
• Dundrum Road - A lane closure and footpath diversion remain in place while work is carried out on an existing boundary wall. The work will continue until 28 August, between 7am and 2pm. A Stop/Go system will be used. 

Active Travel project updates

• Dodder Greenway, Ely’s Arch - Work is continuing at the Orwell Road and Braemor Park junction and at the Orwell Road and Dodder Road Lower junction. Dodder Road Lower reopened on 17 August 2026 with a permanent one-way arrangement. Traffic can now travel westbound only, from Orwell Road towards Ely’s Arch. The new two-way cycle lanes are expected to partially open in autumn 2026. Traffic management and signposted diversions will remain in place where required. 
• Dún Laoghaire Central Active Travel Scheme - The temporary one-way system on Mounttown Road Lower will allow the scheme to be completed and operational by the end of October 2026.

Safe Routes to School updates

Work is nearing completion at the following locations:

• Holy Cross National School, Dundrum
• Carysfort National School, Blackrock
• Holy Family National School, Monkstown

Only minor finishing work remains, and minimal disruption is expected.

Work is continuing at The Harold School on Eden Road Lower and Harold Crescent. Temporary traffic lights will be used while the existing traffic signals are switched off. Delays may occur, but pedestrian access to the school will be maintained.

Proposed pedestrian crossing at Cornelscourt

The Council is proposing a signal-controlled pedestrian crossing at the N11 Cornelscourt junction. The work would include changes to the traffic signals, road markings, footpaths, kerbs, tactile paving and signs. The crossing would make the junction safer and more accessible for pedestrians and cyclists and improve access to nearby bus stops.
