Carysfort Park Playground Reopens Following Major Upgrade

Families across Blackrock and the surrounding area can once again enjoy Carysfort Park Playground following the completion of a major upgrade and extension project by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council. The newly enhanced facility has been transformed into a modern, inclusive and accessible play space designed to meet the needs of children of all ages and abilities.

The upgraded playground now extends to approximately 1,208m² and incorporates a wide range of formal and nature-based play opportunities. While some existing equipment has been retained, the playground has been significantly enhanced with new features including a wheelchair-accessible trampoline, sensory play panels, cradle and basket swings, accessible sand tables, a rotating bowl, an embankment slide, improved surfacing and upgraded seating areas. 

The project was shaped by extensive public consultation through dlr’s Citizen Space platform, with community feedback playing a key role in the final design. Residents highlighted the importance of a larger play area, additional inclusive play opportunities, improved accessibility, upgraded seating, landscaping enhancements and new play equipment, all of which have been incorporated into the completed scheme.

Carysfort Park Playground has been a valued community amenity since it first opened in 2009 as part of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council’s neighbourhood playground programme. The latest investment ensures that it will continue to provide high-quality play and recreational opportunities for local children and families for many years to come.
