On the 16 July, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council (dlr) responded promptly to a pollution incident reported in Kilbogget Park. Upon receiving the report, dlr Pollution Control staff were immediately dispatched to the site. Containment measures, including two oil traps were installed upstream of Kilbogget Park, were implemented to manage and mitigate the diesel spill. These traps were maintained and refreshed daily from Wednesday 16 to Sunday 20 July, successfully capturing the majority of the oil.

In coordination with Kildare Wildlife Rescue, local dlr staff and volunteers safely removed swans from the affected area. The birds are currently under the care of Kildare Wildlife Rescue.

By Monday 21 July, only small residual amounts of oil remained. These were subsequently washed out to sea by heavy rainfall, where natural processes such as wave action and bacterial breakdown neutralized the remaining pollutants.

We continue to monitor the site for any residual pollution and to assess the impact on local biodiversity. Visitors to Kilbogget Park are reminded to keep dogs on leads, except in designated off-leash areas.

Any concerns can be report the Parks Section on (01) 2054700.
