It has been a busy and productive start to the year across the Council, with major progress achieved in housing, sustainability, public realm improvements, and community-focused initiatives. A significant milestone was the granting of planning permission for Dundrum Central, a landmark development that will deliver a high-quality mix of homes and community facilities in the heart of south Dublin. This project represents an important step in transforming an underutilised campus into a vibrant new neighbourhood. Building on the success of Shanganagh Castle Estate in Shankill, our partnership with the Land Development Agency continues to demonstrate how well-planned, sustainable housing can be delivered at scale. “ It has been a busy and productive start to the year across the Council, with major progress achieved in housing, sustainability, public realm improvements, and community-focused initiatives. ” National recognition for dlr’s housing innovation continues to grow, with Shanganagh Castle Estate winning two LAMA Awards in Major Infrastructure and Best Housing & Regeneration. We also won the Grand Prix Award, the top honour of the ceremony, presented to the most successful local authority across all categories.

Flood management has remained a priority during the recent period of severe weather. The Council has implemented both short-term and long-term measures, including enhanced monitoring systems, preventative works and rapid-response teams to help reduce risks and protect communities.

In our parks, we officially opened two new inclusive play spaces at Meadowbrook Ludford in Ballinteer and Clonkeen Park in Deansgrange. Each features a wide range of accessible and sensory play elements that encourage adventure, social connection and engagement with nature for children of all abilities. We recently launched an important parking awareness video, highlighting the real impacts of illegal and inconsiderate parking on people with disabilities, older residents and families with prams.

We also hosted two well-attended public events providing practical guidance to help households reduce energy use and lower bills. Dún Laoghaire celebrated a major achievement this year with the award of the Purple Flag for 2026, its first time receiving this international accreditation. This success reflects strong partnership working with local businesses, An Garda Síochána and community groups to create a safe, welcoming and vibrant evening economy. Looking ahead, we are preparing for Dublin Climate Action Week and the return of Spring into Heritage, offering opportunities for residents to explore local history, architecture and climate action initiatives. We remain committed to building a sustainable, inclusive and thriving county for all.
