Traffic and Roadworks Update: 29 August to 4 September 2026

Road users in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown are advised to plan ahead this week. Several road closures, roadworks and temporary traffic arrangements will be in place across the county.

This update covers the main traffic impacts expected between Saturday, 29 August and Friday, 4 September 2026. Information is correct as of 4pm on Thursday, 27 August 2026.

Please note that emergency works cannot be forecast.

Wyattville Link Road speed limit

A temporary 50 km/h speed limit remains in place on the westbound Wyattville Link Road, between Cherrywood Avenue and the Cherrywood M50 southbound slip road.

The reduced speed limit is required to facilitate the construction of the Wyattville Link Road underpass as part of the Beckett Link Road Project. It will remain in place until 30 November 2026, or until the works are completed, whichever is earlier. 

Proposed road closures

Killiney Hill Road

The Council has received an application from Gas Networks Ireland to temporarily close Killiney Hill Road between Victoria Road and Military Road from 29 September to 1 October 2026, between 8am and 6pm each day.

The closure is required for gas works. Pedestrian and local access will be maintained and diversion routes will be clearly signposted.

Silchester Road, Glenageary

The Council has received an application to temporarily close a section of Silchester Road at its junction with Silchester Crescent on 9 October 2026, between 10am and 4pm.

The closure is required to facilitate permanent reinstatement works. Pedestrian and local access will be maintained and diversion routes will be signposted.

Current road closures and traffic arrangements

Mounttown Road Lower, Dún Laoghaire

A temporary one-way system remains in place on Mounttown Road Lower. Traffic can travel northbound from Kill Avenue towards York Road.

Southbound traffic must follow the signposted diversion routes. This arrangement is required to facilitate the Dún Laoghaire Central Active Travel Scheme and will remain in place until 30 October 2026. Pedestrian and local access will be maintained. 

Longer-term road closures

The following closures remain in place:

• Laneway from Marino Avenue East to Station Road, Killiney: Closed until 1 September 2026 for resurfacing works.
• Brides Glen Road, Shankill: Closed between Rathmichael Road and Mullinastill Road until 26 September 2026 for the installation of a new watermain.
• Wyattville Link Road westbound: Traffic arrangements remain in place between Cherrywood Avenue and the M50 southbound slip road until 30 November 2026 for the Beckett Link Road Project.
• Glenamuck Road, Carrickmines: Closure remains in place between Brambledown and the Enniskerry Road junction. Pedestrian and local access will be maintained.
• Barnaslingan Lane: Permanently closed to through traffic at its junction with the Glenamuck Link Distributor Road. Access for pedestrians and cyclists remains available. 

Main roadworks and lane restrictions

Traffic management measures, including Stop/Go systems, temporary traffic lights, lane restrictions and local diversions, may be in place at the following locations:

• Mount Merrion Avenue and Sydney Avenue, Blackrock: Pipe rehabilitation works continue until 3 September, between 10am and 4pm.
• Granville Road, Kilbogget: Footpath works continue until 4 September, between 10am and 4pm.
• Marino Avenue West to Station Road, Killiney: Road resurfacing works continue until 4 September, between 10am and 4pm.
• Enniskerry Road, Kilternan: Watermain works from 31 August to 11 September, between 8am and 6pm.
• Highfield Park, Dundrum: Trial hole works on 31 August, between 10am and 4pm.
• Cherrywood Avenue: New water connection works on 31 August, between 10am and 4pm.
• Blakes Site, The Hill, Stillorgan: New water connection works on 1 September, between 10am and 4pm.
• St Fintan's Villas, Deansgrange: New water connection works on 1 September, between 10am and 4pm.
• Belclare, Newtownpark Avenue, Blackrock: Water and wastewater connection works from 2 to 4 September, between 10am and 4pm.
• M50 Junction 14 Link Road Scheme: Lane closures on the Leopardstown Road roundabout from 31 August to 11 September, between 10am and 4pm.
• N11 northbound near Leopardstown Road: ESB ducting works continue until 11 September, between 8am and 6pm. 

Ongoing major works

Galloping Green, Stillorgan

ESB ducting works associated with the Kingscroft Development are continuing.

Traffic management includes:

• Closure of the bus lane
• Closure of the cycle lane
• Closure of the adjacent grass verge

The existing footpath remains open. Works are expected to continue for approximately five to six weeks. 

Churchtown Road Upper

Road and footpath improvement works near De La Salle College continue until 11 September, between 10am and 4pm. A Stop/Go traffic management system will be in operation. 

Active Travel project updates

Dún Laoghaire Central Active Travel Scheme

The temporary one-way system on Mounttown Road Lower remains in place to allow completion of the scheme by the end of October 2026.

Dodder Greenway – Ely's Arch Project

Works continue at the Orwell Road/Braemor Park junction and Orwell Road/Dodder Road Lower junction.

Dodder Road Lower reopened on 17 August 2026 as a permanent one-way road, with traffic travelling westbound only from Orwell Road towards Ely's Arch.

Traffic management and signposted diversions remain in place where required. 

Safe Routes to School updates

Work is substantially complete at:

• Holy Cross National School, Dundrum
• Carysfort National School, Blackrock
• Holy Family National School, Monkstown

Only minor finishing works remain and minimal disruption is expected.

Work continues at The Harold School on Eden Road Lower and Harold Crescent. Temporary traffic lights are in operation while existing traffic signals are switched off. Delays may occur, but pedestrian access to the school will be maintained. 

Proposed pedestrian crossing at Cornelscourt

The Council is proposing a signal-controlled pedestrian crossing at the N11 Cornelscourt junction.

The project includes changes to traffic signals, road markings, footpaths, kerbs, tactile paving and signage. The crossing will improve accessibility and safety for pedestrians and cyclists and improve access to nearby public transport services.
