Marlay Park, one of Dublin’s most cherished public green spaces, is celebrating a major milestone — 50 years in public ownership. To mark this golden anniversary, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is proud to announce a celebration this May & June, packed with nostalgia, entertainment, and community spirit. The park will come alive with a vibrant programme of events designed for all ages, reflecting its evolution from a historic estate into a beloved public treasure.

Cllr. Jim O Leary, Cathaoirleach of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council said:

"Marlay Park has been a cornerstone of public life in our county for five decades. This celebration is not only a tribute to the past, but a thank you to the generations who have enjoyed and cared for this beautiful space. We look forward to welcoming everyone for our four week celebration of shared memories and new experiences."

Highlights of the weekend include:

  • Music Nights throughout May Presented by Feile Nasc
  • Movies in the Park: Grab a blanket and enjoy classic family films under the stars in the heart of the park.
  • A 1970s Disco Extravaganza: Step back in time with a boogie-filled Saturday afternoon, complete with retro tunes, flared trousers, and disco lights — a nod to the park’s earliest days in public hands.
  • ‘Marlay Exhibitions’: Discover the fascinating history of the park, with photographs, maps, and artwork.
  • Art, Crafts & Food Stalls: Celebrate community creativity with the Marlay Courtyard Business and enjoy flavours from food vendors in the CoCo Markets

Marlay Park has grown from a historic demesne into a vibrant public amenity, known for its woodlands, gardens, sports facilities, markets, and iconic concerts. The 50th anniversary celebration will highlight its unique role as a green haven for all.

Frank Curran, Chief Executive, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council said:

“Marlay Park has been a vital green space for the rapidly growing suburbs of Dublin since its acquisition in 1972. The park has undergone various developments over the years, including the restoration of Marlay House and the introduction of sports facilities and recreational areas. Marlay Park continues to adapt and respond to the needs of future generations. Join us in celebrating 50 years of Marlay Park and the memories made within its beautiful grounds”.

Everyone is welcome. All events can be found here.
