Major Infrastructure Investment to Unlock Thousands of Homes
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council has welcomed the announcement by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage of funding approval for key infrastructure projects under the first phase of the Housing Infrastructure Investment Fund (HIIF).
In Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown, four strategic projects have been selected for funding. These projects will play a critical role in unlocking land for housing, improving connectivity, and supporting the sustainable growth of communities.
Cherrywood SDZ – Lehaunstown Neighbourhood Road (Indicative Cost Band < €10m)
A new road at Lehaunstown in the Cherrywood Strategic Development Zone will serve emerging residential lands, including lands owned by the Council and earmarked for housing.
Cherrywood is a key growth area in the county, supported by major investment in public transport, including LUAS, as well as road and energy infrastructure. The new road will directly enable the delivery of approximately 555 homes, while supporting the development of a further 2,800 homes in the wider area.
Sandyford Civic Park (Indicative Cost Band < €10m)
A new urban park will be developed at the heart of the Sandyford Business District, enhancing public space and supporting one of the county’s most important employment and residential areas.
The project will help unlock land for approximately 3,630 homes, with the potential to support a further 3,820 homes. Sandyford continues to benefit from investment in sustainable transport, public realm improvements, and essential infrastructure.
Old Connaught – M11 Bridge and Link Roads (Indicative Cost Band > €20m)
This project will deliver a new bridge and link roads over the M11, connecting Woodbrook/Shankill to Old Connaught, along with associated drainage infrastructure.
This strategic transport project will significantly improve connectivity in the area and directly enable approximately 3,690 homes, while supporting a further 6,430 homes.
Kiltiernan Park Phase 2 (Indicative Cost Band < €10m)
The second phase of Kiltiernan Park will deliver a new public park, supporting the growing community in the area.
Alongside improved transport infrastructure, this project will help unlock land for approximately 1,600 homes, with the potential for a further 500 homes.
These projects build on ongoing investment in Cherrywood, Sandyford and other key growth areas, where infrastructure is already helping to unlock housing and create well-connected, sustainable communities.
The Council will continue to work closely with Government and stakeholders to deliver the infrastructure needed to support homes, jobs and quality of life for residents across the county.
You can read more about these projects on the Housing Infrastructure Investment Fund on the Department’s website.
