Traffic and Roadworks Update: 5 to 11 September 2026

Road users in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown are advised to plan ahead this week. Several road closures, roadworks and temporary traffic arrangements will be in place across the county. 

This update covers the main traffic impacts expected between Saturday, 5 September and Friday, 11 September 2026.

 Information is correct as of 4pm on Thursday, 3 September 2026. 

Please note that emergency works cannot be forecast. 

Wyattville Link Road speed limit 

A temporary 50 km/h speed limit remains in place on the westbound Wyattville Link Road, between Cherrywood Avenue and the Cherrywood M50 southbound slip road. 

The reduced speed limit is required for construction of the Wyattville Link Road underpass as part of the Beckett Link Road Project. It will remain in place until 30 November 2026, or until the works are completed, whichever is earlier. 

Proposed road closures 

Killiney Hill Road 

The Council has received an application from Gas Networks Ireland to temporarily close Killiney Hill Road between Victoria Road and Military Road from 29 September to 1 October 2026, between 8am and 6pm each day. 

The closure is required for gas works. Pedestrian and local access will be maintained and diversion routes will be clearly signposted.

Silchester Road, Glenageary 

The Council has received an application to temporarily close a small section of Silchester Road at its junction with Silchester Crescent on 9 October 2026, between 10am and 4pm. 

The closure is required for permanent reinstatement works. Pedestrian and local access will be maintained and diversion routes will be signposted.

Current road closures and traffic arrangements 

Mounttown Road Lower, Dún Laoghaire 

A temporary one-way system remains in place on Mounttown Road Lower. Traffic can travel northbound from Kill Avenue towards York Road. Southbound traffic must follow the signposted diversion routes. 

This arrangement is required for the Dún Laoghaire Central Active Travel Scheme. Pedestrian and local access will be maintained. The scheme is expected to be fully completed and operational by the end of October 2026. 

Ballybrack Road, Glencullen 

Ballybrack Road will be temporarily closed between Glencullen Adventure Park and Zipit, Tibradden, on Thursday, 10 September 2026, from 7pm to 8pm. Full access to both attractions will be maintained. 

The closure is required for a fundraising 5km road race. Pedestrian and local access will be maintained and diversion routes will be signposted. 

Longer-term road closures 

The following closures and traffic arrangements remain in place: 

• Brides Glen Road, Shankill: Closed between Rathmichael Road and Mullinastill Road until 26 September 2026 for installation of a new watermain. 

• Wyattville Link Road westbound: Traffic arrangements remain in place between Cherrywood Avenue and the M50 southbound slip road until 30 November 2026 for the Beckett Link Road Project. 

• Glenamuck Road, Carrickmines: Closed between Brambledown and the Enniskerry Road junction. Pedestrian and local access will be maintained. 

• Barnaslingan Lane: Permanently closed to through traffic at its junction with the Glenamuck Link Distributor Road. Access for pedestrians and cyclists remains available. 

Main roadworks and lane restrictions 

Traffic management measures, including Stop/Go systems, temporary traffic lights, lane restrictions and local diversions, may be in place at the following locations: 

• Clonkeen Crescent and Clonkeen Grove, Deansgrange: Footpath maintenance from 7 to 11 September, between 8am and 6pm. A Stop/Go system will be in place. 

• Rosemount Park, Churchtown Lower: Ducting works on 7 September, between 8am and 6pm. 

• Callary Road, Mount Merrion, Blackrock: Ducting works on 8 September, between 10am and 4pm. 

• St Columbanus Road, Churchtown Lower: Night-time ducting works from 8 to 9 September, between 7.30pm and 11pm. 

• Annsbrook, Roebuck: Ducting works on 9 September, between 10am and 4pm. 

• Harlech Crescent, Clonskeagh: Utility works on 10 September, between 8am and 6pm. 

• Kilcross Road, Sandyford: Reinstatement works on 10 September, between 8am and 6pm. 

• Olivemount Road, Windy Arbour: Ducting works from 9 to 10 September, between 8am and 6pm. 

• Glasthule Road, Glasthule: Drinking water works from 9 to 10 September, between 10am and 4pm. A three-way Stop/Go system will be in place. 

• Roebuck Road, Clonskeagh: Wastewater works from 10 to 11 September, between 10am and 4pm. 

• Marley Court, Rathfarnham; Meadow Mount, Churchtown: Reinstatement works on 7 September, between 8am and 6pm. 

• Sandyford Road, Dundrum: Reinstatement works on 7 September, between 10am and 4pm. A two-way Stop/Go system will be in place. 

• Glenalbyn Road and Allen Park Road, Stillorgan: Reinstatement works on 8 September. Traffic management will be in place. 

• Kilmacud Road Upper, Blackrock: Reinstatement works on 8 September, between 10am and 4pm. A two-way Stop/Go system will be in place. 

• Cranford Court, Stillorgan Road; Woodbine Road, Booterstown: Reinstatement works on 9 September, between 8am and 6pm. 

• Carysfort Park, Avoca Avenue and Sydney Avenue, Blackrock: Reinstatement works on 10 September, between 8am and 6pm. 

• Woodlands Park, Stillorgan: Reinstatement works on 11 September, between 10am and 4pm. 

• Rochestown Avenue: Repair works outside Granitefield Mews from 9 to 10 September, between 10am and 4pm. A five-way Stop/Go system will be in place. 

• R837 and Stonebridge Road: ESB cable connection works from 7 to 18 September, between 10am and 4pm. A four-way Stop/Go system will be in place. 

• Enniskerry Road, Kilternan Village: Watermain works at Struan Glen continue until 11 September, between 8am and 6pm. 

• M50 Junction 14 Link Road Scheme: One lane will be closed on the Leopardstown Road roundabout until 11 September, between 10am and 4pm. 

Ongoing major works 

Galloping Green, Stillorgan 

ESB ducting works associated with the Kingscroft Development are continuing. The bus lane, cycle lane and adjacent grass verge are closed. The existing footpath remains open. The works are expected to continue for approximately five to six weeks from 10 August 2026. 

Churchtown Road Upper 

Road and footpath improvement works near De La Salle College continue until 11 September, between 10am and 4pm. A Stop/Go traffic management system will be in operation. 

Active Travel project updates 

Dún Laoghaire Central Active Travel Scheme 

The temporary one-way system on Mounttown Road Lower remains in place. Traffic travels northbound from Kill Avenue towards York Road, while southbound traffic must use the diversion routes. The scheme is expected to be completed by the end of October 2026.

Dodder Greenway – Ely's Arch Project 

Works continue at the Orwell Road/Braemor Park junction and the Orwell Road/Dodder Road Lower junction. Dodder Road Lower is now a permanent one-way road, with traffic travelling westbound only from Orwell Road towards Ely’s Arch. Traffic management and signposted diversions remain in place where required. 

Safe Routes to School updates 

Work is substantially complete at Holy Cross National School in Dundrum, Carysfort National School in Blackrock and Holy Family National School in Monkstown. Only minor finishing works remain and minimal disruption is expected. 

Work continues at The Harold School on Eden Road Lower and Harold Crescent. Temporary traffic lights are in operation while the existing traffic signals are switched off. Delays may occur, but pedestrian access to the school will be maintained.

Proposed pedestrian crossing at Cornelscourt 

The Council is proposing a signal-controlled pedestrian crossing at the N11 Cornelscourt junction. The project includes changes to traffic signals, road markings, footpaths, kerbs, tactile paving and signage. 

The crossing will improve accessibility and safety for pedestrians and cyclists and improve access to nearby public transport services.
