Dublin Mountains Festival – Féile na Sléibhe launches!
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, South Dublin County Council, and the Dublin Mountains Partnership (DMP) have launched The Dublin Mountains Festival – Féile na Sléibhe which will bring families, outdoor enthusiasts, and locals together to explore the landscape and history of the Dublin Mountains. This festival includes walks, talks, exhibitions, and outdoor activities in partnership with a wide range of people and organisations.
A series of free multi-disciplinary hikes will take place across the month including:
- Monuments, Geology & Ecology’ on 6 May
- ‘Archeoastronomy, Nature & Sky’ on 10 May
- ‘5000 years of life and farming in the Dublin Uplands’ on 23 May.
Councillor Denis O’Callaghan, Cathaoirleach of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, said:
"I am delighted to launch the Dublin Mountains Festival – Féile na Sléibhe, which is a collaboration of many people and organisations including from within Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council - our Sports Partnership and Active Cities Teams, our Heritage Officer and our Tourism team. The programme of events across the month shows the diversity of cultural and recreational opportunities the Dublin Mountains has to offer."
Exhibitions will celebrate the mountains including the Infinite and the Infinitesimal, a visual exploration of tiny mosses and ancient archaeology at dlr Lexicon and Tallaght Library. Féile na Sléibhe in Fernhill Park & Gardens on 25 May, promises to be an exciting element of the festival’s line up. The festival launch coincides with the opening of a new permanent orienteering course in Tibradden Wood in conjunction with Three Rock Orienteers and Active Cities Dublin.
