dlr Tidy District Awards Celebrates Local Community Groups
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council held their 31st Annual Tidy Districts awards ceremony last night at County Hall, Dún Laoghaire. The competition recognises and rewards the efforts made by residents’ associations, estate management groups and tidy town groups to enhance the local environment. While the competition is primarily an anti-litter and anti-graffiti competition, it has evolved over the years and now includes biodiversity, climate action and community engagement.
Speaking at the awards, An Cathaoirleach Councillor Denis O’Callaghan said;
“The Tidy Districts awards is a vital and successful aspect of the teamwork that exists between dlr and the communities it serves. Resident Associations, Tidy Town, Tidy District and Estate Management groups have shown leadership and innovation in response to a changing climate. Tidy Districts is an opportunity to celebrate and reward the hard work carried out by all, and I would like to congratulate all groups who took part in Tidy Districts 2023 and I would encourage groups to enter next year."
This year, seventeen of the thirty-two Residents’ Associations, Estate Management Groups and Tidy Towns Groups who entered the competition were awarded prizes.
Dalkey Tidy Towns were the overall winner of Tidy Districts 2023 and are an enthusiastic team of volunteers, who were recognised for their outstanding work in the community. The hard work and effort is visible throughout the town with the judges remarking on that the area was clean to a very high standard. From litter picks to planting, to supporting biodiversity through pollinator projects to working with local schools and communities it is clear Dalkey Tidy Towns take great pride in making a difference to the environment.
Frank Curran, Chief Executive, Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council said:
"The Tidy Districts Awards gives us the opportunity to formally recognise and reward these hardworking groups who have dedicated themselves to improving our local surroundings. Their commitment positively contributes to the overall quality of life for residents and visitors alike. In addition to honouring the winners of the Tidy Town Awards, we are excited to share that details about the new Community Climate Action Fund which will be announced soon and will assist us to achieve our climate and energy targets."
