Cllr Barry Saul, Cathaoirleach of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, attended the “A Look Back at Deansgrange” exhibition this week at Deansgrange Library. "A look Back at Deansgrange" exhibition was created by the Deansgrange Library Team and the Foxrock Local History Club.

This year marks over four decades of service from both organisations — 44 years for the library and 45 for the club — each contributing in its own way to the life of this community. Deansgrange Library has long been a hub of activity, offering events, talks, exhibitions and a welcoming space for everyone. With the My Open Library service, the building is accessible 365 days a year, from 8am to 10pm. As one local resident recently said, “the library is truly at the heart of the village.”

The Foxrock Local History Club, run entirely by dedicated volunteers, has spent 45 years promoting interest in the culture and heritage of the area. With over 120 members, the committee, many of whom are here tonight, delivers a full programme of talks, local visits, an annual outing, and have published an impressive 95 booklets on local topics — all available to consult in Deansgrange library. The committee volunteers also support schools, nursing homes and the public with local and family history queries and talks. Their contribution to local community life is remarkable.

Deansgrange Libraries’ collaboration with the Foxrock Local History club has grown in recent years, with the club's Local History talks becoming some of the librarys' most popular events, attracting full rooms and large online audiences.

Local history, at its heart, is simply the story of the place around us. This exhibition invites you to look again at Deansgrange — to see what lies beneath the familiar, and to discover what stood here long before it became known as a suburb. From ancient burial grounds to battles, from rebellions to mass public meetings, this area is rich with stories waiting to be explored.

Everyone is welcome to enjoy the exhibition and perhaps uncover something new about the place you call home.

“A Look Back at Deansgrange.” on display until end August in Deansgrange Library.
