Creativity and Climate Come Together at dlr LexIcon Library Event
Creativity, Climate and the Future We Share in dlr LexIcon Library brought together artists, scientists and the public for a special Climate Action Week screening and panel discussion earlier today.
It included a screening of the short films Shared Terrain by Louis Haugh and Forest Songs by Cracking Light Productions (Maeve Stone and Alex Gill in collaboration with composer Tom Lane), followed by a panel discussion moderated by Professor Quentin Crowley, geologist, environmental scientist, and Trinity College Dublin lead for Ireland’s Knowledge Centre for Carbon, Climate and Community Action (IKC3).
The event highlighted the powerful role of the arts in fostering deeper connections between people and the natural world, using storytelling, visual expression, and shared experiences to communicate the urgency of climate action. A key focus was how artists can inspire citizens and communities to remind us what an important resource the natural world surrounding us is, to engage with it more meaningfully and our duty to protect what we have in places like Tiknok forest. By bridging science and creativity, the discussion emphasised that emotional connection and cultural engagement are essential for motivating collective responsibility and long-term care for our environment.
This event was supported by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council’s Climate Action team, Economic Development Unit and Arts Office. It is funded by Creative Ireland and Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council.
