Comhairle na nÓg Annual Youth Conference
In November, dlr Comhairle na nÓg held their Annual Youth Conference at the Talbot Hotel in Stillorgan, bringing together 110 young people from 31 schools and 5 youth services. The theme for this year’s event was Youth Spaces and Facilities, providing an opportunity for non-Comhairle members to learn about the work of Comhairle na nÓg and share their views. The conference was officially opened by Councillor Pierce Dargan, Leas Cathaoirleach of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, marking the start of a day focused on youth engagement and community development.
On the event, Councillor Jim Gildea, Cathaoirleach, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council highlighted the importance of the work done by Comhairle na nÓg :
“Empowering future generations to become active citizens and influence policy is a priority for us. Through Comhairle na nÓg, led by our Community and Cultural Development Department, we provide a strong platform for youth voices to be heard. In dlr, we’ve placed a special focus on ensuring that seldom-heard voices are represented, enriching decision-making and shaping the narrative for years to come. I am proud of the remarkable engagement shown by young people at the dlr Comhairle na nÓg Annual Youth Conference.”
The young people engaged in a dynamic day of debate, interactive games, and world café discussions on safety, accessibility, and transport, within youth spaces. They voted to focus this year’s theme on “Safety in Youth Spaces and Facilities.” Comhairle na nÓg members delivered inspiring speeches about the group’s purpose, achievements, and the opportunities it offers, while expressing delight at the diverse range of participants who attended.
Frank Curran, Chief Executive of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council added:
“The Annual Youth Conference provides an opportunity to applaud the incredible work done by Comhairle members throughout 2025 and to celebrate their achievements. Next year’s focus on Safety in Youth Spaces & Facilities, as voted for by the attendees, highlights the importance of creating environments where young people feel secure and welcomed. It also marks an exciting moment to look ahead, as we welcome new members in the coming year and continue building a strong platform for youth voices to shape the future of our community.”
