It is now safe to swim at :
• Coliemore Harbour
• Corbawn Strand
• Dún Laoghaire Baths*
• Forty Foot
• Killiney Beach
• Sandycove
• Whiterock Beach
However, due to recent heavy rain and storm overflows on Thursday 11 June, water quality may be temporarily affected at some locations. As a precaution, please do not swim at the following locations until Wednesday, 17 June:
• Blackrock Baths Shore
• Seapoint
Next bathing water sampling date is Monday 15 June.
Why we issue swim warnings
Under bathing water regulations, local authorities must act to protect public health when there is a risk from heavy rainfall and storm overflows. This means we must:
• Warn the public in advance where possible
• Put up advice or “do not swim” notices
• Prevent people being exposed to polluted water
• Continue monitoring and testing the water
This is why you may see prior warnings and temporary “do not swim” notices after heavy rainfall, even though recent bathing results (based on earlier samples) show the water quality as excellent.
*While the EPA has classified Dún Laoghaire Baths as ‘poor’ based on 2025 sampling results, recent water quality tests indicate that it is currently safe for swimming. Further information on our website.
