Local and European Elections 7 June 2024

Local & European Elections will take place on Friday, 7 June 2024 from 7am until 10pm. Stephen Brady, Director of Corporate Services, Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council will be the returning officer for the area of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown which has 40 elected members and includes the Local Election Areas (LEA’s) of:

  • Blackrock (6 seats),
  • Dundrum (7 seats),
  • Dún Laoghaire (7 seats),
  • Glencullen/Sandyford (7 seats)
  • Killiney/Shankill (7 seats),
  • Stillorgan (6 seats).

 

Local Election candidate nominations

All information on how to become a candidate in the Local Elections is here.

The period for receipt of nominations to become a candidate in the Local Elections starts at 10am on Saturday 11 May and ends at 12pm on Saturday 18 May 2024. All accepted candidates will be published on our website and shared on our social channels during the week of 11-18 May 2024.

Voter Registration

Everyone is encouraged to check that their details are correct and up to date at www.voter.ie  A person eligible to vote but not yet registered as an elector still has time to apply for entry in the register of electors. To be eligible to vote a person must be 18 years of age or over on or before polling day and be ordinarily resident in the constituency in which you wish to vote. You must also be included on the Register of Electors.   Completed applications must be received by Monday, 20 May 2024.

If a person is eligible to vote by post or is unable to vote in person due to an illness or disability and is resident in a hospital, nursing home, mental health facility or similar institution, and they are not on the Postal Voters List or Special Voters List, as appropriate, they can apply up to Saturday, 11 May 2024 for inclusion in those lists.

Eligible voters who are not on the register, or who need to update their details, for example because they have moved house, can do so by submitting an online application at www.voter.ie  or by submitting a form to Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council.  Relevant application forms are available here or online at www.voter.ie

Election posters

Candidates can only erect posters from 30 days before the polling date.  There is a requirement for candidates to remove all posters within 7 days of the poll.
