Draft Old Connaught Local Area Plan

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council are in the process of preparing a Local Area Plan for Old Connaught. The Draft Local Area Plan was published in March 2025 and following an initial period of public consultation and a Special Council Meeting in early July 2025, where the Elected Members considered the Draft Plan and the submissions made, they resolved that the Draft Plan should be altered. Following the Council meeting we are now at the Proposed Material Alterations stage.

Councillor Jim Gildea, An Cathaoirleach, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, said:

“I’m delighted to see that the draft Old Connaught Local Area Plan is moving forward towards material alterations stage. The work undertaken by the elected members, our council’s Planning Department and others in shaping a framework for the development of a new community in this area is coming to fruition. The realisation of the Local Area Plan later this year will enable the development of a new community which will provide new homes, services and facilities and will also provide vital social and physical infrastructure for the existing community in Old Connaught.”

Frank Curran, Chief Executive, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, said:

“The progression of the draft Old Connaught Local Area Plan to material alterations stage is a very positive step towards the development of a new community and much needed housing, physical and social infrastructure for the area and to also provide services and facilities for the existing community. I welcome the continued collaborative approach to the spatial planning of the Old Connaught area with the elected members, the local community and all stakeholders.”

The proposed material alterations will be on public display both online and in our public offices at Dundrum and Dún Laoghaire and will be available to view in all dlr libraries for a 4-week period until Friday 22 August 2025.

Submissions from the public and interested parties are invited.
