Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council hosted a collaborative event as part of Dublin Climate Action Week, showcasing the transformative work being done by businesses and state agencies to address climate change. The event, held at County Hall, Dún Laoghaire highlighted the efforts of businesses of all sizes to reduce their climate impact and take on a leadership role in tackling the climate crisis. The event brought together businesses of various sizes to present the initiatives they have undertaken with various state entities that address topics such as biodiversity, climate emissions, circular economy and staff awareness and training.

Cllr. Jim O’Leary, Cathaoirleach, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council highlighted:

“Addressing the climate crisis requires all corners of society to work together collaboratively for one common goal – and paramount to this is strong leadership from business. This event gives businesses the opportunity to discuss the actions, innovations and programmes their business are taking to reduce their climate impact.”

Speakers on the day included Dr. Emer Ní Dúill (Business for Biodiversity) and David Lawlor (Green Ocean Foundation/Watermark Coffee) discussing how businesses can act to be nature positive and the Dublin Bay Oyster Reseeding Project taking place in Dun Laoghaire Marina. Dr Joanne Rourke (MODOS/mywaste.ie) discussed the importance and benefits of circular economy in business and the collaboration between MODOS and VivaGreen. Bobby Lambert (Ecomerit) and Mary Pat McAlarey (Tico Mail Works) presented results of their collaboration to reduce climate emissions in their business. Ana Apostol (Royal Marine Hotel) presented on their collaboration with Fáilte Ireland under their climate action programme and sustainability in tourism and staff training and education.

Frank Curran, Chief Executive, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council added;

“Climate change is the defining challenge of our time, and business has a critical role to play – not just in reducing climate impact but in driving transformative solutions. Transforming Business for Climate Action is a fantastic opportunity to hear and learn about actions being taken by businesses and stakeholders within Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown and how the collaborative effort is leading to more productive solutions.”
