Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Disability Consultation Group (DCG) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) last week, bringing together members, stakeholders, local Elected Members and community representatives to review progress and outline priorities for the year ahead.

The AGM featured the presentation of the Group’s Annual Report, which highlights achievements over the past year in advancing disability inclusion, accessibility, and participation across the county. Key areas of progress included increased consultations and collaboration with Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, expansion of their membership, the restructuring of their Group to be both an Advisory and Community Group, and the development of initiatives to ensure that local services and facilities are accessible to all.

Speaking at the AGM, the newly elected Chair of the DCG, Seán O’Kelly emphasised the importance of lived experience in shaping policy and practice:

“This annual report reflects not only the work of the Group, but also the voices of people with disabilities across the county. Our aim is to continue building a community that values equality, inclusion, and accessibility for everyone. We aim to do this through ongoing consultation and collaboration with Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and the wider community.”

The AGM also provided an opportunity to look forward, with members setting out key priorities for the coming year. These include advocating for universal design in public spaces, supporting greater participation of people with disabilities in decision-making, strengthening partnerships with local organisations, and rolling out disability inclusion public awareness campaigns.

The DCG thanked all members, volunteers, and partner organisations for their ongoing commitment. By working together, the Group aims to ensure that Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown continues to lead the way in creating an inclusive and accessible community.
