Explorium – Ireland’s National Sport and Science Centre – recently buzzed with energy and excitement during #BeActive Night, a flagship event of European Week of Sport hosted by Active Cities Dublin.

Supported by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and DLR Sports Partnership, the event welcomed families, community groups and individuals to experience the full range of interactive and physical activities Explorium has to offer. From indoor climbing walls, multi-sensory sports zones and STEM-based challenges to VR cycling, reaction games, augmented reality sports and dynamic movement labs, attendees were immersed in a unique blend of movement, learning and fun.

The evening highlighted the importance of accessible, inclusive and engaging spaces for physical activity, aligning with the Active Cities mission to make sport and movement part of everyday life for everyone.

An Cathaoirleach of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown, Cllr. Jim Gildea, said:

“Events like #BeActive Night show how fun and inspiring physical activity can be when it’s made accessible to all. Explorium is a state-of-the-art facility that brings sport and science together in a way that excites and engages people of all ages. It’s fantastic to see our communities enjoying such a vibrant space.”

Chief Executive of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, Frank Curran, added:

“This event is a great example of what can be achieved through strong partnerships between local authorities, sports organisations and initiatives like Active Cities Dublin. We’re proud to support opportunities that promote health, wellbeing and community connection.”

#BeActive Night @Explorium was one of many events across Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown celebrating movement and sport during European Week of Sport. The success of the evening reflects the growing momentum behind Active Cities Dublin and its commitment to making physical activity more visible, accessible and enjoyable for all.

This initiative was funded by Sport Ireland and Active Cities Dublin. For more information see the Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown Sports Partnership website https://dlrsportspartnership.ie/ or email our Active Cities Officer amonaghan@dlrcoco.ie
