Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is delighted to announce the formal adoption by the Elected Members of the Kiltiernan-Glenamuck Local Area Plan (LAP) on 5th June 2025, following two years of comprehensive work and extensive public consultation. This Plan sets out a clear vision for a connected, sustainable neighbourhood, enhancing green infrastructure, supporting the area’s rural character, heritage, and biodiversity.

Councillor Jim O’Leary, Cathaoirleach, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council stated:

“We have listened to our community and are now delivering a forward-focused plan which reflects their aspirations for the future of Kiltiernan Glenamuck.”

The Local Area Plan outlines policies and objectives to guide the area’s future, including provision for up to a further 1,000 new homes, new schools, a purpose-built community centre, retail and commercial spaces, and a new centrally located public park. The adopted Plan also includes detailed frameworks to guide future development proposals on key sites. Road improvements to facilitate sustainable transport options, such as walking, cycling, and public transport, have been prioritised to support future growth and connectivity.

The Plan’s development was informed by robust public engagement, including open days, webinars, and opportunities for written submissions each of which have been considered in the process of adopting the Plan, with the Elected Members ensuring that local voices shaped the final outcome. The Council’s commitment to transparency and community involvement has been central throughout the process.

Frank Curran, Chief Executive of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, added:

“This Plan provides a continuing strong framework for sustainable growth in Kiltiernan - Glenamuck and supports the ongoing development of a vibrant community including the provision of a vibrant, new village centre to provide residential, shopping and service amenities.”

The adoption of the Kiltiernan-Glenamuck LAP marks a significant milestone for this area, laying the groundwork for a thriving, inclusive future balancing development of new homes and sustainable transport options with the preservation of local character and environment.
