Launch of High Security Locks Scheme 2022

Today, an Cathaoirleach of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, Councillor Mary Hanafin, launched the Council’s High Security Locks Scheme.

The scheme is aimed at homeowners aged 65 and over living in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown and will offer these homeowners the opportunity to have the existing lock barrels / cylinders in external doors replaced with high security anti-snap locks.

This scheme will cover the cost for the replacement of lock barrels on up to 2 locks per home – front door, back door and/or side door - by LockSafe Locksmiths. The scheme will not cover the costs of repairing doors/locks which are already faulty and not all doors are suitable for replacement barrel locks.

An Cathaoirleach Cllr. Mary Hanafin, on launching the scheme, welcomed the initiative and said:

This High Security Lock Scheme is an important initiative for the older citizens of the County. The Pilot Scheme provided locks to nearly 200 homes last year.  A new, more secure lock, which will be provided free of charge, will give homeowners over 65 years of age security and peace of mind.”

Chief Executive of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, Frank Curran, added:

The High Security Locks Scheme was a brilliant success last year and I am delighted to see the scheme return again this year,. The scheme will allow even more of our older citizens to upgrade the security in their home at no cost to themselves.”

The scheme is open to owner-occupiers of privately-owned homes who reside in the dlr County Council administrative area aged 65 years of age and over. The scheme is not open to people living in rented accommodation (private, social or voluntary).
