Read MoreIn 2016, after spending nineteen years as an art director and a graphic designer working for a wide variety of businesses and ad agencies, Aga Grandowicz decided to focus on her lifelong passion for nature and animals. This led to the publication in 2018 of an award-winning illustrated book, ‘Dr Hibernica Finch’s Compelling Compendium of Irish Animals’. The book was shortlisted for Irish Books Awards 2018 in the Best Irish-Published category, Literacy Ireland’s Children’s Book Award 2019, and won Aga the Honour Award for Illustration in CBI’s Book of the Year Award 2019.
Since the book’s publication, Aga has been involved in several wildlife-related design and illustration projects, and has been invited to run numerous drawing workshops for children at various book and family festivals, and in the libraries across the country.
Aga’s most recent work is focused on drawing endangered animal species, which she feels is time well spent. With so much lost in the natural world at the hands of humans, she uses her work to help people play a more positive role. Her most recent children's book – ‘Remarkable Creatures: a guide to some of Ireland’s disappearing animals’ (available at the end of May 2021) shares fascinating facts about Ireland’s most endangered animal species, activities to help understand more about the species’ habitats and tips on how to help protect them.
One of her largest projects is a wildlife mural in Greystones’ Park & Ride produced in 2020, which was very well received. Aga plans to bring her love for wildlife to Dún Laoghaire Anseo.
