Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council will be making a number of upgrades and improvements to the Dundrum area in the coming months and years. The future of Dundrum has been shaped through a comprehensive planning and public consultation process. The Dundrum Local Area Plan 2023, formally adopted by the elected members of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, sets out a long-term vision for Dundrum as a vibrant, inclusive, sustainable and well-connected town. These projects build on that vision, enhancing Dundrum as an attractive place to live, work and visit. They complement projects already in planning, including the DLR Connector scheme, and will help lay the foundations for further improvements to the village in the years ahead.
1. Dundrum Civic and Cultural Centre
A proposed new civic and cultural hub for Dundrum, bringing together library, community, cultural and civic facilities in the heart of the village. The project aims to create a new destination and gathering place for residents, community groups and visitors at Waldemar Terrace. Public consultation planned for 2027.
2. Waldemar Terrace Public Realm Scheme
A €4 million upgrade of Waldemar Terrace to create an attractive, pedestrian-friendly civic space with improved landscaping, seating, accessibility and public realm enhancements.
3. Living Streets Programme
Improvements to streets and public spaces around the village centre, prioritising walking, accessibility, greenery and creating more welcoming environments for residents and visitors.
4. Bus Stop Relocation and Public Transport Improvements
Changes to bus stop locations to support the delivery of the Civic and Cultural Centre and public realm improvements, while providing capacity for up to three times more bus services in the future.
5. Walking and Cycling Improvements
Enhanced pedestrian and cycling connections throughout Dundrum, making it safer and easier to travel actively between key destinations.
6. Village Centre Public Realm Improvements
A package of streetscape improvements including wider footpaths, additional planting, improved crossings, better accessibility and upgraded public spaces.
7. Greening and Biodiversity Enhancements
New landscaping, tree planting and green infrastructure to help create a more attractive, sustainable and climate-resilient village centre.

What Happens Next?
To minimise disruption and ensure timely public engagement, these projects will be delivered sequentially rather than all at once.
Each project will have its own separate planning and consultation process. As individual projects progress, more detailed information and design proposals will be available, and the public will be invited to share their feedback during consultation windows.
Together, these projects will help deliver the long-term vision laid out in the Local Area Plan and ensure that Dundrum continues to be a vibrant, inclusive, sustainable and attractive place to live, work and visit.
