Voter Registration Drive Held at dlr LexIcon Library to Mark National Voter Registration Day 2026

Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Council’s Franchise Team hosted a voter registration drive at dlr LexIcon Library on Thursday 30 April to mark National Voter Registration Day (NVRD) 2026.

Council staff were on hand to provide guidance, answer queries, and support anyone who needed assistance with registering to vote or checking and updating registration details.

National Voter Registration Day is an initiative that promotes voter registration and increases political participation, with a particular focus on reaching minority groups, disadvantaged communities and young people. 

This year’s theme, “Have Your Say: Engaging with Irish Public Representatives,” highlights the importance of participation not only at election time, but also through understanding how democracy works locally and how people can engage with those elected to represent them. Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown is one of 13 local authorities participating in the initiative this year.

Members of the public are encouraged to check their registration and update their details online at www.voter.ie.

An Cathaoirleach, Cllr Jim Gildea,  Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Council, said:

“Registering to vote is the gateway to having your say in politics. If you’re not on the register, you’re effectively locked out of the democratic process before it begins. I encourage everyone—especially first-time voters, people who have recently moved, and anyone unsure of their details—to visit voter.ie or to contact DLR’s Franchise Team to register or update their details.”

At a time when misinformation can undermine trust, initiatives like this help people access clear, reliable information and take a practical step towards participation in civic life.”
