Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council Passes Motion Regarding Presidential Nomination Powers

At the September meeting of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council tonight, Councillors formally resolved not to exercise the Council’s constitutional power to nominate a candidate for election to the office of President of Ireland.

The motion, passed by the elected members, reads:

"That this Council resolves, under Article 12.4.2 (ii) of Bunreacht na hÉireann, not to exercise its power to nominate a candidate for election to the Presidency."
