Traffic and Roadworks Update: Saturday, 23 May to Friday, 29 May 2026
We are advising road users of the following traffic management measures, roadworks and closures taking place across the county over the coming week.
This public service update is provided by the Council’s Infrastructure and Climate Change Department. Details are correct as of 4pm on Thursday, 21 May 2026. Please note that emergency works cannot be forecast.
Road Works Speed Limit Orders
A number of road works speed limit orders remain in place:
- M11 Northbound (Junction 7 to Junction 5)
A temporary speed limit of 60 km/h will apply from 22 June to 17 July 2026 to facilitate resurfacing works. - Wyattville Link Road (Westbound)
A temporary speed limit of 50 km/h remains in place from Cherrywood Avenue to the M50 southbound slip road until 30 November 2026, to enable construction of the Beckett Link Road underpass.

Upcoming temporary closures include:
- Kellystown Road, Taylorsgrange
Proposed closure from 22 June to 24 July 2026 (08:00–18:00 daily) for road reconstruction and resurfacing works. - Hillcrest Road, Sandyford
Proposed closure on 24 June 2026 (09:00–13:00) for cleansing works. - Brides Glen Road, Shankill
Proposed closure from 13 July to 26 September 2026 to facilitate installation of a new watermain. - Kilmacud Road Upper, Dundrum
Proposed closure from 22 June to 26 June 2026 as part of Safe Routes to School resurfacing works. - Sutton’s Lane / Mine Hill Lane, Ballycorus
Proposed closure on 24 June 2026 (13:30–16:00) for cleansing works. - Fitzgerald Park Road, Dún Laoghaire
Proposed closure on 28 June 2026 (14:00–17:00) to facilitate a community family fun day. - Convent Road, Blackrock
Proposed closure from 29 June to 3 July 2026 for Safe Routes to School resurfacing works. - Meadow Mount / Meadow Grove, Ballinteer
Proposed closure on 24 June 2026 (18:15–21:30) to facilitate the Stephen Roche GP Cycle Race.
Road Closures in Effect
The following closures are currently approved or ongoing:
- M50 Southbound (Junction 12–13)
Night-time closure 26–27 May (21:00–06:00) for resurfacing works. - Ballybride Road, Shankill
Closed 25–29 May 2026 for maintenance works. - Burton Hall Road, Sandyford
Closure extended to 29 May 2026 due to delays in watermain installation works. - Knapton Road, Dún Laoghaire
Closure in place until 17 July 2026 for Active Travel Scheme works. - Enniskerry Road (R117), Kilternan
Closed until 28 August 2026 for road realignment and upgrade works. - Wyattville Link Road (Westbound)
Ongoing closure associated with Beckett Link Road project until 30 November 2026. - Marino Avenue East to Station Road Link, Killiney
Closed until 3 August 2026 due to structural works.
Major Works and Traffic Impacts
Dún Laoghaire Central Active Travel Scheme*
Significant works continue at:
- Glenageary Road Upper / Maypark Avenue junction (finishing end May)
- Mounttown Road Upper / York Road junction (finishing end June)
Resurfacing works at Maypark Avenue junction will take place:
- Day works: 25–26 May
- Night works: 27–29 May
Expect ongoing disruption in surrounding areas.
Glenamuck District Roads Scheme*
Works remain ongoing with traffic management measures and diversions in place. Permanent and temporary closures continue as part of the scheme.
Roadworks and Lane Restrictions
Notable works this week include:
- Ballinteer Road (near Westerton Rise) – works begin 27 May to 5 June (Stop/Go system)
- St Patrick’s Crescent & Oliver Plunkett Road, Monkstown – resurfacing works 25–29 May
- Ballybride Road, Shankill – resurfacing works with road closure 25–29 May
- Blackglen Road, Stepaside; Castle Street, Dalkey; Albert Road Upper, Glenageary – ongoing works until 29 May
- Leopardstown Road junctions (Night Works) – traffic management in place 27–28 May (19:00–05:00)
Numerous local reinstatement works will take place across the county throughout the week, including in:
- Blackrock, Dundrum, Churchtown, Mounttown, Stillorgan, Cabinteely, Leopardstown, Rathfarnham, Killiney and surrounding areas.
Safe Routes to School & Active Travel Works
Progress continues at multiple locations:
- Holy Cross NS, Dundrum – ongoing works on Upper Kilmacud Road
- Holy Family NS, Dundrum (Dunedin Drive) – works commencing 25 May
- The Harold School (Eden Road Lower / Eden Terrace) – ongoing upgrades
- Carysfort NS, Blackrock (Brookfield Terrace) – continued construction works
All traffic-impacting works are scheduled outside peak times where possible, with pedestrian access maintained.
General Advisory
Traffic management will be in place at all locations, and diversion routes will be clearly signposted.
Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians are advised to:
- Plan journeys in advance
- Allow extra travel time
- Follow all signage and traffic management instructions
