Traffic and Roadworks Update Saturday 2 May to Friday 8 May 2026

Motorists traveling in Dún Laoghaire‑Rathdown are advised to plan ahead this week, as a number of road closures, roadworks, and traffic management measures will be in place across the county.

 

Key updates for this week

 

Speed Limit in Place – Wyattville Link Road

 

A temporary 50km/h speed limit is in place on the Wyattville Link Road (westbound only).

 

The speed limit applies:

 

  • From Cherrywood Avenue to the Cherrywood M50 southbound slip road
  • From Monday, 13 April 2026
  • Until Monday, 30 November 2026, or until the works are finished

 

This speed limit is in place to:

  • Improve road safety
  • Allow construction works for the Wyattville Link Road underpass, as part of the Beckett Link Road Project

 

Proposed Road Closures

 

M50 Southbound (Firhouse to Dundrum)

 

A night‑time closure of the M50 southbound is proposed between:

  • Junction 12 (Firhouse) and Junction 13 (Dundrum)

 

The closure may take place:

  • From Tuesday 26 May to Wednesday 27 May 2026
  • Between 9.00 pm and 6.00 am

The works are required to resurface the road.
A Traffic Management Plan will be in place, and diversion routes will be clearly signposted.

 

Ballybride Road, Shankill

 

Ballybride Road may be temporarily closed:

  • From Monday 25 May to Friday 29 May 2026
  • Between Crinken Lane and Sylvanmount

The closure is needed for road maintenance works.
Pedestrian access and local access will be maintained at all times

 

Current Road Closures

 

Burton Hall Road, Sandyford

  • Closed from Monday 6 April to Friday 8 May 2026
  • Works are being carried out to install a new water main

 

Knapton Road, Dún Laoghaire

  • Closed at the junction with Mounttown Road
  • From Monday 23 March to Friday 17 July 2026
  • Works form part of the Dún Laoghaire Central Active Travel Scheme

 

Marino Avenue East to Station Road, Killiney

  • The laneway between Marino Avenue East and Station Road remains closed
  • Until Monday, 3 August 2026
  • Works involve rebuilding a boundary wall for safety reasons

 

Wyattville Link Road (Westbound)

  • Closed from Monday, 13 April to Monday, 30 November 2026
  • Works are for the construction of the Wyattville Link Road underpass
  • Alternative routes and traffic layouts are in place
  • A short diversion will operate on the night of Thursday, 30 April 2026
  • All diversion routes will be signposted

 

Sandyford 5K – Temporary Road Closures

Temporary road closures will be in place in the Sandyford Business District to allow the Sandyford 5K event to take place.

  • Date: Thursday, 7 May 2026
  • Road closures: from around 7.00 pm to 8.45 pm

Roads affected include:

  • Blackthorn Road
  • Blackthorn Avenue
  • Blackthorn Drive
  • Carmanhall Road
  • Three Rock Road
  • Corrig Road
  • Raven’s Rock Road

Emergency access will be provided if needed.

 

Roadworks and Lane Restrictions

A number of short‑term roadworks will take place across the county during this period.

These include water, wastewater, ducting, reinstatement and resurfacing works.

Works will take place in areas including:

  • Cabinteely
  • Stillorgan
  • Deansgrange
  • Sandyford
  • Blackrock
  • Dalkey
  • Killiney
  • Monkstown
  • Shankill
  • Bray
  • Dún Laoghaire

Most works will take place during the day, with:

  • Traffic management in place
  • Stop/Go systems or temporary lane closures where needed

Some night‑time works will take place on main roads.

 

Active Travel and Safe Routes to School Works

Works are continuing on a number of walking and cycling schemes, including:

  • Dún Laoghaire Central Active Travel Scheme
  • Safe Routes to School works at: 
    • Carysfort National School, Blackrock
    • The Harold School
    • Holy Cross National School, Dundrum
    • Holy Family National School, Monkstown

Where possible:

  • Traffic‑impacting works take place between 10.00 am and 4.00 pm
  • Busy school and commuting times are avoided
  • Pedestrian access is maintained at all times

 

Plan Ahead

Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time, follow signed diversion routes and observe all temporary traffic measures in place.
