Traffic and Roadworks Update 8 to 14 August 2026

Wyattville Link Road Speed Limit Remains in Place

A temporary 50km/h speed limit remains in force on the westbound Wyattville Link Road between Cherrywood Avenue and the Cherrywood M50 southbound slip road.

The restriction is required to facilitate construction of the Wyattville Link Road underpass as part of the Beckett Link Road Project and will remain in place until 30 November 2026, or until works are completed. 

Proposed Road Closures

• Castle Street, Dalkey - Proposed closure from the Church of the Assumption car park / Queen’s Bar to the former Allied Irish Bank / Maxwell’s Pharmacy on 22 and 23 August 2026, between 10:00 and 19:00 hours. The closure is required to facilitate the Dalkey Lobster Festival, creating a safe and family-friendly event space.
• Ballybrack Road, Glencullen - Proposed closure on 10 September 2026, between 19:00 and 20:00 hours. The temporary closure is required to facilitate a community fundraising 5km road race.

Traffic management plans and diversion routes will be in place for both events, and pedestrian and local access will be maintained. 

Current Road Closures

Road users should be aware of the following closures and traffic arrangements currently in operation:

• Dodder Road Lower, Rathfarnham - Closed from 10 August 2026 for approximately seven days between Ely’s Arch and Orwell Road. The closure is required to facilitate construction works associated with the Dodder Greenway – Ely’s Arch Project, including cycle infrastructure improvements, resurfacing works and drainage upgrades.
• Brennanstown Road - Closed between Carrig Glen Estate and Old Bray Road until 24 August 2026. The closure will facilitate surface water drainage works.
• Green Road, Blackrock - Closed from 10 to 12 August 2026, between 10:00 and 16:00 hours, for gas infrastructure works.
• George’s Avenue, Blackrock - Closed on 14 August 2026 from Main Street to Carraig Court to facilitate permanent reinstatement works.
• Mounttown Road Lower, Dún Laoghaire - A temporary one-way traffic system remains in place until 30 October 2026 as part of the Dún Laoghaire Central Active Travel Scheme. Southbound traffic is restricted between Tivoli Road and Highthorn Park, while northbound traffic remains open.

Ongoing Closures for Major Infrastructure Projects

The following longer-term traffic measures remain in place:

• Brides Glen Road, Shankill - Closed until 26 September 2026 to facilitate installation of a new watermain.
• Enniskerry Road (R117), Kilternan - Closed until 28 August 2026 for road realignment and carriageway upgrade works.
• Laneway linking Marino Avenue East and Station Road, Killiney - Closed until 1 September 2026 for resurfacing works.
• Wyattville Link Road (Westbound) - Traffic management arrangements remain in place for the Beckett Link Road project until 30 November 2026.
• Puck’s Castle Lane and Murphy’s Lane, Rathmichael - Road maintenance works continue until 9 August 2026. 

Roadworks and Lane Restrictions

A number of roadworks, utility installations and reinstatement works will take place across the county this week. Traffic management measures, including lane restrictions, temporary traffic signals, Stop/Go systems and local diversions, will be in operation where required.

Major Works

• Galloping Green, Stillorgan - ESB ducting works associated with the Kingscroft Development will commence on 10 August 2026 and are expected to continue for approximately five to six weeks. Traffic management measures include a bus lane closure, cycle lane closure and closure of the adjacent grass verge, while pedestrian access will be always maintained.
• Granville Road, Kilbogget - Footpath improvement works continue until 14 August 2026 between 10:00 and 16:00 hours. A Stop/Go Traffic Management Plan will be in operation.
• Cherrywood Campus - Foul main installation works continue until 28 August 2026 between 08:00 and 18:00 hours. A Stop/Go Traffic Management Plan is in operation.
• Churchtown Road Upper (near De La Salle College) - Road and footpath improvement works associated with the Traffic Calming Scheme continue until 11 September 2026 between 10:00 and 16:00 hours. A Stop/Go Traffic Management Plan will remain in place.

Utility Works

• Kilcross Avenue, Sandyford - Virgin Media works involving one grass verge blockage will take place from 12 to 13 August between 08:00 and 18:00 hours.
• Cherrywood Park, Shankill - Virgin Media works involving one carriageway blockage will take place from 13 to 14 August between 08:00 and 18:00 hours.
• Shanganagh Cliffs, Shankill - Virgin Media works involving three grass verge blockages will take place on 14 August between 08:00 and 18:00 hours.
• Pottery Road, Dún Laoghaire - Drinking water connection works will take place on 13 and 14 August between 08:00 and 18:00 hours.
• Merville Avenue, Stillorgan - Wastewater connection works will take place on 10 August between 08:00 and 18:00 hours.
• Springfield Park, Foxrock - Drinking water and wastewater connection works will take place from 11 to 13 August between 08:00 and 18:00 hours.
• Cross Avenue, Blackrock - Trial hole investigations will take place on 10 August between 09:30 and 18:00 hours.
• Carmanhall Road, Sandyford - ESB trenching and ducting works will take place from 11 to 13 August between 10:00 and 16:00 hours. A Stop/Go Traffic Management Plan will be in operation.
• Clarence Street, Cumberland Street, George’s Street Lower and York Road, Dún Laoghaire - Trenching and ducting works will take place from 11 to 14 August between 10:00 and 16:00 hours. Traffic signals at affected junctions will be temporarily switched off during the works.

Reinstatement Works

The following reinstatement works will take place during the week, generally between 08:00 and 18:00 hours under Traffic Management Plans:

• Beaumont Avenue, Churchtown
• Sorrento Road, Dalkey
• Rockfort Avenue, Dalkey
• Stillorgan Village Centre / Lower Kilmacud Road, Stillorgan
• Foster’s Avenue, Mount Merrion, Blackrock
• Belfort Court / Sydenham Villas, Dundrum
• Torquay Road, Foxrock
• Kilmacud Road Upper, Dundrum
• Lakelands Road, Stillorgan
• Old Bray Road, Cornelscourt
• Holywell, Kilmacud
• Stillorgan Grove, Stillorgan
• South Avenue, Kilmacud
• Cranford Court, Stillorgan Road
• Avondale Lawn, Blackrock
• Clanmawr, Shankill

Additional locations requiring Stop/Go traffic management include:

• National Rehabilitation Hospital, Rochestown Avenue on 11 August (2-way Stop/Go).
• Harold’s Grange Road, Rathfarnham on 11 August (3-way Stop/Go).

DLR Operations

• Wyattville Road and Church Road - Night-time gully cleaning works will take place on 8 August between 05:00 and 12:00 hours under a Traffic Management Plan.

Telecommunications and Broadband Works

• Torca Road, Dalkey - Fibre broadband installation works, including trench excavations and network clearance works on behalf of the National Broadband Ireland programme, will take place from 10 to 21 August between 08:00 and 17:00 hours.

Development-Related Works

• Dundrum Road, Dundrum - Boundary wall alteration works continue until 28 August 2026 between 07:00 and 14:00 hours. A single-lane closure and footpath diversion remain in place under a Stop/Go Traffic Management Plan.

Night Works

• George’s Street Lower, Dún Laoghaire - Night-time reinstatement works will take place on 10 August between 19:00 and 23:00 hours.
• Upper Kilmacud Road, Dundrum (outside Garda Station) - Road resurfacing works will take place from 12 to 14 August between 19:00 and 05:00 hours. A Stop/Go Traffic Management Plan will be in operation, and access in the immediate work area will be restricted during the works.

Motorists are advised to allow additional journey time when travelling through these locations and to follow all temporary traffic management measures in place.

Active Travel Project Updates 

• Dodder Greenway – Ely’s Arch Project - Construction works continue at the Orwell Road/Braemor Park and Orwell Road/Dodder Road Lower junctions.
• Lower Dodder Road – after the 16 August 2026 the road will reopen with a permanent westbound one-way system operating between Orwell Road and Ely’s Arch.

Safe Routes to School Programme

Works continue across a number of school travel improvement projects: 

• Holy Cross National School, Dundrum
• Carysfort National School, Blackrock
• Holy Family National School, Monkstown
• Harold School, Glasthule

These projects are substantially complete, with only minor snagging and finishing works outstanding. Minimal disruption is expected while these final works are completed.

Proposed Signalised Pedestrian Crossing at Cornelscourt

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council intends to provide a new signalised pedestrian crossing at the N11 Cornelscourt Junction.

The scheme will improve accessibility and safety for pedestrians and cyclists while enhancing connectivity to nearby public transport services.
