Traffic and Roadworks Update: 3 to 9 October 2026

Road users in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown are advised to plan ahead this week. Several road closures, roadworks and temporary traffic arrangements will be in place across the county between Saturday, 3 October and Friday, 9 October 2026. Information is correct as of 4pm on Thursday, 1 October 2026. Emergency works cannot be forecast. 

Wyattville Link Road speed limit

A temporary 50 km/h speed limit remains in place on the westbound Wyattville Link Road between Cherrywood Avenue and the Cherrywood M50 southbound slip road.

The reduced speed limit is required to facilitate construction of the Wyattville Link Road underpass as part of the Beckett Link Road Project. It will remain in place until 30 November 2026, or until the works are completed, whichever is earlier. 

Proposed road closures

Dublin Marathon route

The Council has received an application from the Dublin Marathon Group to temporarily close sections of:

  • Clonskeagh Road
  • Roebuck Road
  • Foster's Avenue
  • R138 Stillorgan Road (north of Foster's Avenue)
  • UCD Flyover to the Dublin City boundary

The closures are proposed for Sunday, 25 October 2026, from 9.20am to 4.30pm, to facilitate the Irish Life Dublin Marathon.

Observations or objections should be submitted before 12 noon on 7 October 2026. 

Torquay Road, Foxrock

An application has been received to temporarily close Torquay Road between Leopardstown Road and Golf Lane from 27 October to 1 November 2026, between 8am and 6pm daily.

The closure is required to facilitate gas works. Pedestrian and local access will be maintained and diversion routes will be clearly signposted.

Observations or objections should be submitted before 12 noon on 19 October 2026. 

Current road closures and traffic arrangements

Brides Glen Road, Shankill

Brides Glen Road remains closed between Rathmichael Road and Mullinastill Road until 28 November 2026 to facilitate the installation of a new large diameter watermain. Diversion routes are signposted. 

Silchester Road, Glenageary

A small section of Silchester Road at its junction with Silchester Crescent will be temporarily closed on Friday, 9 October, between 10am and 4pm for permanent reinstatement works.

Pedestrian and local access will be maintained and diversion routes will be signposted. 

Mounttown Road Lower, Dún Laoghaire

The temporary one-way system remains in place on Mounttown Road Lower.

Traffic can travel northbound only between Kill Avenue and York Road. Southbound traffic should follow the signposted diversion routes.

The arrangement is required for the Dún Laoghaire Central Active Travel Scheme and is expected to remain in place until the end of October 2026. 

Longer-term closures and traffic arrangements

The following closures and traffic arrangements remain in place:

  • Brides Glen Road, Shankill: Closed until 28 November 2026 for installation of a new watermain.
  • Wyattville Link Road westbound: Temporary traffic arrangements remain in place until 30 November 2026.
  • Glenamuck Road, Carrickmines: Closed between Brambledown and the Enniskerry Road junction.
  • Barnaslingan Lane: Permanently closed to through traffic. Pedestrian and cyclist access remains available. 

Main roadworks and lane restrictions

Traffic management measures, including temporary traffic lights, Stop/Go systems, lane restrictions and local diversions, may be in place at the following locations:

  • Old Bray Road/Brennanstown Road, Cabinteely: Surface water drainage works until 6 October.
  • Leopardstown Link Road: Upgrade of pedestrian crossings until 19 October.
  • Ashlawn Park, Loughlinstown: Road resurfacing and footpath maintenance works until 9 October.
  • Torquay Road, Foxrock: ESB trenching and ducting works throughout the week.
  • Cumberland Street, York Road and Clarence Street, Dún Laoghaire: Smart sign installation works until 7 October.
  • Summerhill Road and Glenageary Road Lower: Smart sign installation works until 7 October.
  • Nutgrove Way, Rathfarnham: Night-time road resurfacing works until 7 October.
  • Sydney Avenue/George’s Avenue/Frascati Park, Blackrock: Rehabilitation works continuing this week. 

Utility and reinstatement works

Works are scheduled at locations including:

  • Dún Laoghaire
  • Glenageary
  • Dalkey
  • Deansgrange
  • Killiney
  • Blackrock
  • Foxrock
  • Shankill
  • Dundrum
  • Sandyford
  • Loughlinstown
  • Booterstown
  • Windy Arbour

Active Travel project updates

Dún Laoghaire Central Active Travel Scheme

The temporary one-way system on Mounttown Road Lower remains in place, with traffic travelling northbound only between Kill Avenue and York Road.

The scheme is expected to be fully completed and operational by the end of October 2026. 

Dodder Greenway – Ely’s Arch Project

Works continue at the Orwell Road/Braemor Park junction and the Orwell Road/Dodder Road Lower junction.

Dodder Road Lower now operates as a permanent one-way system westbound from Orwell Road towards Ely’s Arch. Traffic management measures and diversions remain in place where necessary.

The scheme is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.

Safe Routes to School updates

Major construction works have now been substantially completed at:

  • Holy Cross National School, Dundrum
  • Carysfort National School, Blackrock
  • Holy Family National School, Monkstown
  • The Harold School, Eden Road Lower and Harold Crescent

Only minor snagging works remain at these locations and minimal disruption is expected. Temporary traffic management may still be required while final works are completed. 

Proposed pedestrian crossing at Cornelscourt

The Council is proposing a signal-controlled pedestrian crossing at the N11 Cornelscourt junction.

The project includes upgrades to traffic signals, road markings, footpaths, kerbing, tactile paving and signage.

The crossing is intended to improve accessibility and safety for pedestrians and cyclists while supporting access to public transport services. 

Please allow extra time when travelling through affected areas and follow temporary signs and traffic management instructions.
