Traffic and Roadworks Update 26 September to 2 October 2026

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council wishes to advise road users of planned road closures, traffic management measures and roadworks taking place across the county during the week of Saturday 26 September to Friday 2 October 2026. Information is based on notices received by 4pm on Thursday 24 September 2026. Emergency works may arise at short notice. 

Key Traffic Alerts

Bride's Glen Road, Shankill

The temporary closure of Bride's Glen Road, between Rathmichael Road and Mullinastill Road, has been extended until 28 November 2026.

The closure is required to facilitate the installation of a new large diameter watermain by Uisce Éireann. Diversions are in place and clearly signposted. 

Killiney Hill Road

Killiney Hill Road will be closed between Victoria Road and Military Road from 29 September to 1 October, from 8am to 6pm daily.

The closure is required for gas network works. Local and pedestrian access will be maintained. 

Mounttown Road Lower

The temporary one-way traffic system on Mounttown Road Lower remains in place as part of the Dún Laoghaire Central Active Travel Scheme.

Traffic may travel northbound only from Kill Avenue towards York Road. Southbound traffic should follow the signed diversion routes. The arrangement remains in place until 30 October 2026. 

Wyattville Link Road

The westbound section of Wyattville Link Road, between Cherrywood Avenue and the M50 southbound on slip, remains closed until 30 November 2026.

The closure supports construction of the Wyattville Link Road underpass as part of the Beckett Link Road Project. Alternative traffic arrangements remain in operation. 

Proposed Road Closure

Irish Life Dublin Marathon

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council has received an application to temporarily close sections of:

• Clonskeagh Road
• Roebuck Road
• Foster's Avenue
• Stillorgan Road (R138)

on Sunday, 25 October 2026 to facilitate the Irish Life Dublin Marathon.

Observations or objections may be submitted to the Traffic Section before 7 October 2026. 

Roadworks and Traffic Management

Blackrock

Sydney Avenue / George's Avenue / Frascati Park Road rehabilitation works will take place from 26 September to 3 October, between 10am and 4pm. Traffic management will be in place. 

Belclare, Newtownpark Avenue Water connection works will take place from 29 September to 1 October, between 10am and 4pm. 

Dundrum

Sandyford Road Road reinstatement works will take place on 28 September, between 8am and 6pm, with Stop/Go traffic management in operation. 

Mulvey Park Road reinstatement works will take place on 28 September. Road narrowing will be in place. 

Nutgrove Way Night-time resurfacing works continue until 7 October 2026. Traffic management measures and advance warning signs are in place. 

Dún Laoghaire

Cumberland Street, York Road and Clarence Street Installation of smart sign poles will take place from 29 September to 7 October, between 9.30am and 4pm. Two-way traffic will be maintained. 

Glenageary and Dalkey

Road reinstatement works are scheduled at:

• Dundela Park
• Arnold Park
• St Begnet's Villas
• Hillside

between 29 September and 2 October, with temporary traffic restrictions and road narrowing where required. 

Shankill

Road reinstatement works are scheduled at:

• Clanmawr
• Shanganagh Cliffs
• Quinn's Road

between 30 September and 1 October. Temporary traffic controls and Stop/Go systems may be in operation. 

Foxrock and Leopardstown

Works are planned at:

• Leopardstown Road
• Mount Eagle Drive
• Mount Eagle Green

on 2 October, with road narrowing and temporary traffic management measures in place. 

Active Travel and School Projects

Dún Laoghaire Central Active Travel Scheme

Construction continues with a one-way traffic system on Mounttown Road Lower. The scheme is expected to become fully operational by the end of October 2026. 

Dodder Greenway - Ely's Arch Project

Works continue at Orwell Road and Dodder Road Lower. Stop/Go traffic management may be in operation to facilitate ongoing construction. 

Safe Routes to School Projects

Minor finishing works continue at:

• Holy Cross NS, Dundrum
• Carysfort National School, Blackrock
• Holy Family National School, Monkstown
• The Harold School, Glasthule

Minimal traffic disruption is expected. Temporary traffic management measures may be required while remaining works are completed.
