Traffic and Roadworks Update 25 to 31 July 2026

Motorists traveling in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown are advised to plan ahead this week, as a number of road closures, roadworks and traffic management measures remain in place across the county.

Wyattville Link Road speed limit remains in place

A temporary 50km/h speed limit remains in force on the westbound Wyattville Link Road between Cherrywood Avenue and the Cherrywood M50 southbound slip road.

The restriction is required to facilitate construction of the Wyattville Link Road underpass as part of the Beckett Link Road Project and will remain in place until 30 November 2026, or until works are completed.

Proposed Road Closures

The following temporary road closures and traffic arrangements are proposed for August. Objections or observations can be lodged with the Senior Engineer, County Hall, Marine Road, Dún Laoghaire, or by emailing info@dlrcoco.ie, by the dates noted:

• George's Avenue, Blackrock: Proposed closure on 14 August from Main Street to Carraig Court, for permanent reinstatement following tar works. Objections by noon, 29 July.
• Green Road, Blackrock: Proposed closure from 10 to 12 August, between 10 am and 4 pm, for gas works. Objections by noon, 29 July.
• Laneway between Blackrock DART Station and Blackrock Park: Proposed closure from 24 to 28 August for ground investigation works on behalf of the Council's Capital Projects Office. Objections by noon, 5 August.
• Brennanstown Road: Approved closure from 4 to 24 August, from Carrig Glen Estate to Old Bray Road, to complete surface water drainage works.
• Mounttown Road Lower, Dún Laoghaire: A temporary one-way system is proposed from 4 August to 30 October, prohibiting southbound traffic between Tivoli Road and Highthorn Park, as part of the Dún Laoghaire Central Active Travel Scheme. Northbound traffic, pedestrian access, and local access will be maintained.
• Dodder Road Lower, Rathfarnham: Approved closure from 10 August for approximately seven days, from Ely's Arch to Orwell Road, to install new curbing, gullies and cycle lane surfacing as part of the Active Travel Cycle Scheme.

Current Road Closures

Road users should be aware of the following closures and works taking place this week:

• R117 Dundrum Wood, Dundrum: Closed overnight on Sunday, 26 July, from 00:01 to 09:00, for heating and air conditioning works at the new Penneys store in Dundrum Town Centre.
• Puck's Castle Lane and Murphy's Lane, Rathmichael: Road maintenance and surface dressing works continue until 9 August, between 8 am and 6 pm daily, with additional stop/go surfacing works from 27 to 31 July, 10 am to 4 pm.
• Marino Avenue East to Station Road, Killiney: Laneway remains closed until 1 September for resurfacing works, with stop/go surfacing works also taking place from 27 to 31 July, 10 am to 4 pm.
• Station Road, Killiney: Nightly closures continue until 26 July, between 7 pm and 5 am, for installation of a zebra crossing ramp and associated footpath and drainage works.
• Old Bray Road, Cabinteely: New water connection works take place from 29 to 31 July, between 10 am and 4 pm. Traffic lights will be out of operation.
• Braemor Avenue, Miltown Grove, Churchtown: New water connection works take place on 31 July, between 8 am and 6 pm.
• Laurel Cottage, Lanevilles, Monkstown Farm: New drinking water connection works take place on 30 July, between 8 am and 6 pm.
• Granville Road, Kilbogget: Footpath works continue from 27 July to 14 August, between 10 am and 4 pm, with a stop/go system in place.
• Cherrywood Campus: Foul main installation works take place from 27 July to 28 August, between 8 am and 6 pm, with a stop/go system in place.
• Crosthwaite Park: Pedestrian crossing and raised table works continue until 31 July, between 10 am and 4 pm.
• Gordan Avenue, Foxrock; Highfield Park, Dundrum; and Dale View, Glenageary/Ballybrack: Rehabilitation trial hole works take place on Thursday, 30 July.

Ongoing Closures for Major Infrastructure Projects

The following longer-term closures remain in place:

• Brides Glen Road, Shankill: Closed from Rathmichael Road to Mullinastill Road until 26 September, for installation of a new large-diameter watermain.
• Enniskerry Road R117, Kilternan: Partially closed from Kilternan Country Market to Our Lady of the Wayside Church until 28 August, for road realignment and carriageway upgrade works.
• Laneway linking Marino Avenue East and Station Road, Killiney: Closed until 3 August for demolition and rebuilding of a dangerous boundary wall.
• Wyattville Link Road (westbound): Closed from Cherrywood Avenue to the Cherrywood M50 on-slip until 30 November, for construction of the Wyattville Link Road underpass. Alternate traffic management is in place via the M50 northbound and southbound slip roads.
• Barnaslingan Lane, Glenamuck: Permanently closed to through traffic at its junction with the Glenamuck Link Distributor Road, with pedestrian and cycle access maintained. A bus gate at the junction of the new distributor road and Enniskerry Road is due to come into operation this month, on completion of the Glenamuck District Roads Scheme.
• Glenamuck Road, Carrickmines: Closed from Brambledown to the Golden Ball T-junction on Enniskerry Road. A bus gate will be introduced once the closure is complete, restricting through traffic to buses only.

Major Roadworks and Lane Restrictions

Motorists should expect delays at the following locations:

• M50 Junction 14 Link Road Scheme: Lane closures on the Leopardstown Road roundabout continue until 31 July, for installation of duct crossings. Two lanes will be closed overnight between 10 pm and 6 am, with one lane closed during the day between 10 am and 4 pm.
• Churchtown Road Upper, near De La Salle College: Traffic calming, road and footpath improvement works continue until 11 September, between 10 am and 4 pm, under a stop/go system.
• Dundrum Road: Single-lane closure and footpath diversion continue until 28 August, between 7 am and 2 pm, during alteration works to an existing boundary wall.

Active Travel and Greenway Projects

Work continues on the Dodder Greenway – Ely's Arch project, at the Orwell Road/Braemor Park junction. Further works are due to begin on 4 August at the Orwell Road/Dodder Road Lower junction, ahead of the closure of Dodder Road Lower from 10 August. Dodder Road Lower will later be permanently converted to a one-way system on completion of the works.

Safe Routes to School Updates

Works continue across a number of school travel improvement schemes:

• Holy Cross NS, Dundrum: The Sandyford Road car park is substantially complete, and surfacing works on Upper Kilmacud Road are finished, with only minor snagging remaining. Minimal disruption is expected.
• Carysfort National School: Surfacing and road markings on Convent Road are complete. Works on Brookfield Terrace are substantially complete, with remaining activity carried out between 8 am and 6 pm.
• Holy Family National School: Surfacing works on Dunedin Terrace and Monkstown Grove are complete, with minor snagging works taking place between 10 am and 4 pm to minimise disruption during school and commuter hours.
• The Harold School: Works continue at the Eden Road Lower/Harold Crescent junction, including footpath upgrades, tactile paving, drainage, curbing and lighting installation, between 8 am and 6 pm during the school holidays. Temporary traffic signals remain in operation while the permanent signals are switched off.

Public Consultation

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is inviting submissions on a proposed signalised pedestrian crossing at the N11 Cornelscourt junction. The scheme aims to improve accessibility and safety for pedestrians and cyclists and improve connectivity to nearby bus stops.

Submissions can be made to info@dlrcoco.ie, with "Traffic and Road Safety Section: N11 Cornelscourt Pedestrian Crossing" in the subject line, no later than 4:30 pm on 3 August 2026.
