Traffic and Roadworks Update: 12 to 18 September 2026

Road users in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown are advised to plan ahead this week. Several road closures, roadworks and temporary traffic arrangements will be in place across the county between Saturday, 12 September and Friday, 18 September 2026. Information is correct as of 4pm on Thursday, 10 September 2026. Emergency works cannot be forecast. 

Wyattville Link Road speed limit

A temporary 50 km/h speed limit remains in place on the westbound Wyattville Link Road between Cherrywood Avenue and the Cherrywood M50 southbound slip road.

The reduced speed limit is required to facilitate construction of the Wyattville Link Road underpass as part of the Beckett Link Road Project. It will remain in place until 30 November 2026, or until the works are completed, whichever is earlier. 

Proposed road closures

Brides Glen Road, Shankill

The Council has received an application from GMC Utilities, on behalf of Uisce Éireann, to extend the temporary closure of Brides Glen Road between Rathmichael Road and Mullinastill Road from 26 September to 28 November 2026.

The closure is required to facilitate the installation of a new large diameter watermain. Diversion routes will be clearly signposted.

Killiney Hill Road

An application has been received from Gas Networks Ireland to temporarily close Killiney Hill Road between Victoria Road and Military Road from 29 September to 1 October 2026, between 8am and 6pm daily.

The closure is required for gas works. Pedestrian and local access will be maintained and diversion routes will be signposted.

Observations or objections should be submitted before 12 noon on 16 September 2026. 

Silchester Road, Glenageary

An application has been received to temporarily close a small section of Silchester Road at its junction with Silchester Crescent on 9 October 2026, between 10am and 4pm.

The closure is required for permanent reinstatement works. Pedestrian and local access will be maintained and diversion routes will be signposted.

Observations or objections should be submitted before 12 noon on 23 September 2026. 

Current road closures and traffic arrangements

Mounttown Road Lower, Dún Laoghaire

A temporary one-way system remains in place on Mounttown Road Lower.

Traffic can travel northbound from Kill Avenue towards York Road. Southbound traffic must follow signposted diversion routes.

The arrangement is required to facilitate the Dún Laoghaire Central Active Travel. Scheme and is expected to remain in place until the end of October 2026.

Longer-term closures and traffic arrangements

The following closures and traffic arrangements remain in place:

• Brides Glen Road, Shankill: Closed between Rathmichael Road and Mullinastill Road until 26 September 2026 for installation of a new watermain.
• Wyattville Link Road westbound: Traffic arrangements remain in place until 30 November 2026 for the Beckett Link Road Project.
• Glenamuck Road, Carrickmines: Closed between Brambledown and the Enniskerry Road junction.
• Barnaslingan Lane: Permanently closed to through traffic at its junction with the Glenamuck Link Distributor Road. Pedestrian and cyclist access remains available. 

Main roadworks and lane restrictions

Traffic management measures, including temporary traffic lights, Stop/Go systems, lane restrictions and local diversions, may be in place at the following locations:

• N11, Nutley Junction to Cherrywood: Grass-cutting works on 12 September.
• Wyattville Road, Cherrywood to Church Road Junction: Grass-cutting works on 12 September.
• Ballinteer Road, Dundrum: Utility works on 16 and 17 September.
• Carysfort Avenue and Galloping Green North, Blackrock: Utility works on 14 and 15 September.
• Newpark Road, Park Avenue and Newtownpark Avenue, Blackrock: Utility works during the week.
• Chestnut Park and Westminster Park, Foxrock: Utility works on 17 and 18 September.
• Foxrock Park, Deansgrange: Utility works on 18 September.
• Coliemore Road, Dalkey: Reinstatement works on 14 September.
• Kilmacud Road Upper: Reinstatement works on 15 September.
• Sandyford Road, Dundrum: Reinstatement works on 15 September.
• Carrickbrennan Lawn, Monkstown: Reinstatement works on 15 September.
• Elton Park, Sandycove: Reinstatement works on 15 September.
• Avoca Avenue and Sydney Avenue, Blackrock: Reinstatement works on 16 and 17 September.
• Meadowland Avenue, Mounttown: Reinstatement works on 17 September.
• Abbey View and Dunedin Park, Monkstown: Reinstatement works on 17 September.
• Oliver Plunkett Road, Dún Laoghaire: Reinstatement works on 18 September.
• Dundela Park, Glenageary: Reinstatement works on 18 September.
• R837 and Stonebridge Road: ESB cable connection works throughout the week.
• Dundrum Road and Shanacoumha Cul-de-Sac Road: ESB works throughout the week.
• North Avenue, Blackrock: Drinking water connection works from 14 to 16 September.
• Roebuck Road: Drinking water connection works from 17 to 18 September. 

Ongoing major works

Galloping Green, Stillorgan

ESB ducting works associated with the Kingscroft Development are continuing.

The bus lane, cycle lane and adjacent grass verge remain closed. The existing footpath remains open to pedestrians.

Works are expected to continue for approximately five to six weeks from 10 August 2026. 

Active Travel project updates

Dún Laoghaire Central Active Travel Scheme

The temporary one-way system on Mounttown Road Lower remains in place, with traffic travelling northbound only between Kill Avenue and York Road.

The scheme is expected to be fully completed and operational by the end of October 2026. 

Dodder Greenway – Ely's Arch Project

Works continue at the Orwell Road/Braemor Park junction and the Orwell Road/Dodder Road Lower junction.

Dodder Road Lower is now permanently one-way westbound from Orwell Road towards Ely's Arch. Traffic management measures and diversions remain in place where necessary.

The Orwell Road/Dodder Road Lower junction will operate under Stop/Go traffic management on 15 September to facilitate ongoing construction works. 

Safe Routes to School updates

Major construction works have now been substantially completed at:

• Holy Cross National School, Dundrum
• Carysfort National School, Blackrock
• Holy Family National School, Monkstown
• The Harold School, Eden Road Lower and Harold Crescent

Only minor snagging works remain at these locations and minimal disruption is expected. Temporary traffic management may still be required while final works are completed. 

Proposed pedestrian crossing at Cornelscourt

The Council is proposing a signal-controlled pedestrian crossing at the N11 Cornelscourt junction.

The project includes upgrades to traffic signals, road markings, footpaths, kerbing, tactile paving and signage. The crossing is intended to improve accessibility and safety for pedestrians and cyclists while supporting access to public transport services.
