Summer of Heritage 2026

This week, Councillor Barry Saul, Cathaoirleach of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, was joined by Frank Curran, Chief Executive of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council to launch the programme for Summer of Heritage 2026 at National Maritime Museum in Dún Laoghaire. Explore local heritage for free all August with outdoor guided walks at Fernhill Park, Deansgrange Cemetery, Dundrum, Killiney, the Quaker Burial Ground and the Metals; guided tours of the Oratory and County Hall; and free tours of Dalkey Castle, James Joyce Tower, and the National Maritime Museum. Our free literary guided walks celebrate the local landscapes of Maeve Binchy, Hugh Leonard, Samuel Beckett and JM Synge.

This summer, we have two new tours - a historic Dún Laoghaire East Pier Walk, and a tour of the Stillorgan Obelisk which celebrates its incredible 300th anniversary! The programme is a collaboration between Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, the National Maritime Museum, Dalkey Castle & Heritage Centre, James Joyce Tower, Dublin Mountains Partnership, the Society of Friends, and Killiney Historical Society.
