Significant Damage to West Pier Roundhead Prompts Emergency Repairs
Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Council (DLR) advises that a significant hole has developed in the northern sea wall of the West Pier Roundhead in Dún Laoghaire Harbour following storms earlier this year.
The West Pier, one of Ireland’s largest protected structures, is an important heritage landmark for the region. Despite major repair works carried out in 2019–2020 following Storm Emma, recent storm activity has caused further significant damage, highlighting the vulnerability of this historic structure and the need for urgent intervention.
We are committed to safeguarding the structural integrity and heritage value of the West Pier. Emergency repair works will commence this week and will continue over the coming weeks to prevent further deterioration and protect the structure for future generations.
During these essential works, pedestrian access to parts of the West Pier may be temporarily restricted. Every effort will be made to minimise disruption and maintain safe access wherever possible.
We would like to thank the public for their understanding and cooperation while these necessary works are carried out to ensure public safety and preserve this important amenity.
