Reminder for Businesses: Renew Your Street Furniture Licence
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council would like to remind holders of Street Furniture Licences that annual licence renewal fees are now due and must be paid on or before 31 October 2026. The annual renewal fee for licensed outdoor tables is €125 per table. Businesses operating tables and chairs on public footpaths and other licensed public spaces are asked to ensure payment is made by the deadline to maintain compliance with the terms and conditions of their licence.
Street Furniture Licences regulate the placement of structures and appliances on public roads and in public places, including outdoor seating areas, advertising structures, kiosks, awnings, telecommunications infrastructure and other forms of street furniture. The licensing framework assists the Council in balancing commercial activity with the need to ensure public safety, accessibility and the effective management of the public realm.
The Council advises that failure to renew a licence by the specified date may result in the licence lapsing and may give rise to enforcement action in accordance with the Planning and Development Act. Street furniture placed illegally on a public footpath may be removed under Section 70 of the Roads Act 1993 (as amended).
Businesses requiring further information regarding licence renewals are encouraged to contact the Infrastructure and Climate Change Department, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council on streetfurniturelicensing@dlrcoco.ie or 01 205 4700.
Note: Street Furniture Licences are granted under Section 254 of the Planning and Development Act, which provides for the licensing of certain appliances, apparatus and structures on public roads and in public places.
