Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council invites public feedback on this critical infrastructure project to support Cherrywood’s growth

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is inviting the public to take part in a non-statutory “Have Your Say” public consultation on the Emerging Preferred Concept for the Druid’s Glen Road Phase 3 Bridge Project, a key piece of infrastructure needed to support the delivery of homes, jobs and sustainable transport in the Cherrywood Strategic Development Zone (SDZ).

The Phase 3 bridge will complete the Druid’s Glen Road, provide a strategic connection between Lehaunstown and the N11, and unlock access to lands zoned for development under the Cherrywood Planning Scheme.

The Emerging Preferred Bridge Design Concept is a hybrid “extradosed bridge” that will span a distance of approximately 150 metres over the Carrickmines River and was chosen for its visual sensitivity, efficient construction, and reduced environmental footprint that will help protect the unique ecological and heritage setting of Druid’s Glen Valley.

Running from 15 July to 28 August 2025, the consultation presents an opportunity for the public to engage with and provide feedback on the Preferred Bridge Design Concept and a Vertical Alignment identified as part of this vital project.

Councillor Jim Gildea, An Cathaoirleach, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, said:

“This is an important opportunity for the public to have their say on a key piece of infrastructure that will support the sustainable development of Cherrywood. The Druid’s Glen Road Phase 3 Bridge Project will not only improve connectivity but also help deliver much-needed housing, services, and jobs for our growing communities. I encourage everyone with an interest in the area to get involved and share their views during the consultation.”

Frank Curran, Chief Executive, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, added:

“The Druid’s Glen Road Phase 3 Bridge Project is a vital infrastructure project that supports the vision for Cherrywood as a sustainable, well-connected urban community. This bridge will unlock access to key development lands, facilitate active travel, and deliver on the ‘10-Minute Neighbourhood’.

“Our goal is to deliver a piece of infrastructure that is not only functional but also sensitive to its natural and historical setting. We welcome feedback from the public to help ensure the final design reflects the needs and values of the communities it will serve.”
