Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council has taken another step toward updating the long term development plan for the Cherrywood area. The Council, which is responsible for the Cherrywood Strategic Development Zone, applied to An Bord Pleanala, now known as An Coimisiun Pleanala, in December 2024 to make changes to the Cherrywood Planning Scheme that was first approved in 2014.

In October 2025, An Coimisiun Pleanala decided that the proposed update, which focuses on the Cherrywood Town Centre and the surrounding area, would be a significant change to the existing plan. This decision required the Council to carry out a full public consultation before any changes could be approved.

The proposed update, called Amendment Number 11, was made available for public viewing for six weeks from late November 2025 until the middle of January 2026. A total of 93 submissions were received from members of the public and from official bodies during this period.

Councillors reviewed these submissions along with a detailed report from the Chief Executive at a special meeting held on 12 March 2026. At that meeting, they agreed that Amendment Number 11 should go ahead, but only with a number of changes and adjustments.

These updated changes are now being published and placed on public display as the process continues.

A public information session will be held at County Hall, Dún Laoghaire on 14 April 2026.

The public can send in comments on the proposed changes and environmental reports by 23:59 on 24 April 2026, either online, by email, or by post. Only comments about the specific proposed changes and related environmental documents will be considered.
