Today, An Cathaoirleach Denis O’Callaghan officially visited the new state-of-the-art sports facilities at dlr Leisure Meadowbrook, Dundrum. Since their opening earlier this year, residents, schools, and individuals have widely complimented the new upgraded pitches, padel tennis courts, and teenage zone.

Speaking about the new addition of facilities, An Cathaoirleach Denis O’Callaghan, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council stated:

"We are delighted with the new addition of these sports facilities at dlr Leisure Meadowbrook which include new upgraded pitches, padel tennis courts & teenage zone which are already proving to be a success with the community."

The upgraded facilities include:

  • One large all-weather pitch (that can be split into three small pitches) and two padel tennis courts,
  • A teenage zone which includes a multi-skills wall with a traversing section, a 3v3 basketball court, a calisthenics zone, a sprint area, and seating.

Frank Curran, Chief Executive of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, added:

"The 24/7 accessibility and the incorporation of new technologies demonstrate our continued commitment to provide top-notch sports facilities that cater to the needs of our residents”.

The all-weather pitches have been upgraded to include third-generation synthetic surfacing and shockpad, upgraded LED floodlighting, goals, fencing, and ballstop netting. One of the most innovative aspects of the pitches is the use of cork material for the infill, providing a more environmentally friendly alternative to traditional black rubber. This is the first of these pitches in the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown area that uses natural infill and one of the first in Ireland.

The padel tennis courts and the all-weather pitches are managed by dlr Leisure Meadowbrook. Users can easily make reservations either in person at the centre reception or conveniently online. These new facilities are part of the commitment by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and dlr Leisure to provide exceptional sports facilities that meet the needs of the community.

This project was funded by Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, dlr Leisure & the Sports Capital Programme.
