New dlr SpaceFinder App Provides Real-time Updates on Accessible Parking Spaces in Dún Laoghaire
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council today launched the dlr SpaceFinder App which will provide real-time information on the location & live availability of the 37 accessible parking spaces in Dún Laoghaire Town.
In a collaboration between Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, Cellnex, and ParkMagic, each accessible parking spot in Dún Laoghaire is now equipped with a sensor. These sensors will notify blue badge users whether the space is free or occupied, eliminating the frustration of searching for available parking spaces.
Councillor Denis O’Callaghan, Cathaoirleach, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council said:
‘There is a perception that parking in Dún Laoghaire is problematic and often this is worsened through a lack of information. In this instance we are getting very focused information out to a targeted and deserving group to ensure access to Dún Laoghaire town is equitable and a hassle-free experience.’
This Accessible Parking Project is a great example of what can be achieved by working through the quad-helix approach adopted by Smart Dublin where Government, business, industry and the public work together to solve city challenges.
Frank Curran, Chief Executive, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council said:
‘Increasingly Local Authorities are looking to emergent technology to help meet everyday challenges. In this case the data generated is useful not just to us but to other third parties such as the Disabled Drivers Association of Ireland and Access Earth. Through our Digital Strategy Team, we intend to roll out further solutions and look forward to strengthening the relationship with our partners.’
The app is available on Apple and Android App stores as dlr Spacefinder, the Disabled Drivers Association (DDAI) app, Spacefinder, and the Access Earth app.
