Nature and Place – artists invited to explore the impact of climate change in the forests in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council Arts Office is calling for applications from professional artists for a temporary project which explores some of the challenges of the climate crisis and focuses on the public forests in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County (DLR). Nature and Place 2025 takes place between September and November 2025 and offers the selected project a budget of €10,000 (including VAT). This project is funded by Creative Ireland, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council (DLR) and the Dublin Mountains Partnership. It is managed by DLR Arts Office and supported by Coillte.
Nature and Place focuses on the forests of DLR. Our weather patterns are changing due to climate change; in addition, our human footprint as we visit, walk, bike, go horse-riding, and explore the forests also makes a big impression. We are inviting an artist to explore these impacts and to engage in conversations with forest visitors and stakeholders as to how we might manage our interactions with our natural environment in a sustainable way.
Cathaoirleach of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, Councillor Jim O’Leary said:
“The rural and forested part of DLR is a very important part of our County. We are very pleased to continue our Nature and Place commissions. The Council has a detailed Climate Action Plan, and projects and events which engage the public in thinking about climate change are extremely important.”
Chief Executive of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, Frank Curran added:
“The Council is very pleased to have the invaluable support of Creative Ireland and the Dublin Mountains Partnership (DMP) on these projects. DLR has been a partner organisation in the DMP since it was formed, and we welcome the chance to continue to work with them on this exciting arts initiative.”
Applications must be made online, and the deadline is Thursday 12 June at 17.00 (5pm). Applications must be made online through the Submit portal.
