Lego Competition 2021

Lego Competition 2021

Children and young people are invited to participate in dlr Libraries Lego Competition 2021, a perfect project to work on this August and September and also possibly win some prizes!

We have four age categories as well as the 'Crowd Favourite' category, team builds are also accepted, so feel free to buddy up with a sibling, family member or friend to build and to enter!
Each year we are bowled over by the Lego builds we receive in dlr LexIcon, with close to 90 builds submitted each year in 2017, 2018 and 2019, each showing creativity and ingenious building skills and filling our library with a splash of glorious colour! Due to Covid restrictions we had less builds submitted in 2020, however we were still delighted with the 23 builds that were entered to our competition. We hope to see lots of builds and more riotous colour again in September 2021.

Entrants are asked to use their imagination and build a piece based on this year’s theme:

‘How I like to play...’

Feel free to let your imagination go everywhere and anywhere. Your ideas may well be used to contribute to the dlr Play Policy 2021 which is currently being devised by dlr Parks department.*

Use your imagination! Think it! Build it! Tell us about it!

Builds need to arrive to dlr LexIcon between 3pm and 7pm on Wed 15th September. We will contact prizewinners by lunchtime on Thursday 16th September and present prizes afternoon of Thursday 16th September. Builds will need to be collected before 5pm on Saturday 18th September.

We are delighted that Bricks4Kids South Dublin, will partner with us once again to sponsor some wonderful prizes as well as to judge the Lego builds we receive.

Entry form is available as attachment to this news item and available in printed format in all dlr Libraries.

Happy Lego Building!

Prizes : €50 eur One4All voucher for each category. Crowd favourite winner also wins voucher for a weeks lego building camp with Bricks4Kidz and also gets their name added to the perpetual trophy that resides in dlr LexIcon.

*A new Play Policy for Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown will be created in 2021 and dlr Parks welcome your ideas to help steer the direction that the future of play provision in the county will take. The last play policy for the county was produced in 2003. Within the intervening period many societal changes has occurred brought about by a multitude of factors, the advancement of technology, dependence on private car, increase in urbanisation, social media, how we keep in touch with one another and a general reliance on convenience related services and products. With this in mind, the need to review and adapt how we perceive and provide play is necessary.

The purpose of the Play Policy is to;

  • To assess dlr’s current provision for play
  • To formulate a vision for play within the county
  • To draw up a set of policies to guide the delivery of play opportunities
  • Implementation within the county
  • Evaluation and on-going monitoring

Please feel free to contact dlr Parks Department with any suggestions you may have in relation to PLAY. Consider entering dlr Creative Competition for children and young people. Closing date Wed 1st Sept.
