Housing Data in the Dublin Region: Understanding the 4Dublin Housing Supply Pipeline

The 4Dublin Housing Supply Pipeline provides a coordinated, region‑wide view of housing activity across Dublin. It brings together quarterly data from the four local authorities—Dún Laoghaire‑Rathdown County Council, Fingal County Council, South Dublin County Council, and Dublin City Council—to monitor trends in new residential planning permissions and construction activity.

Each quarter, the four councils compile returns on new multi‑unit residential developments, creating a consistent and reliable dataset that tracks the scale and progress of housing delivery in the region. This shared data supports evidence‑based planning, helps identify emerging patterns in housing supply, and allows for greater transparency in how Dublin’s housing pipeline is evolving.

The 4Dublin dataset feeds into a suite of publications and tools designed to make the information accessible to policymakers, researchers, and the public. These include:

  • Interactive Storymap and Dashboard, providing visual insights into planning and construction activity across the region.
  • Quarterly Reports, offering detailed analysis of permissions, commencements, and completions.
  • Open Data Access, allowing users to download datasets for their own analysis.
  • Archived Reports and Maps (2016–2023), enabling a long‑term view of trends in Dublin’s housing delivery.

Together, these resources create a comprehensive picture of housing supply in the Dublin Region, supporting better planning, monitoring, and decision‑making.
