Have Your Say on New 30km/h Speed Limits Near Schools

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is asking the public for feedback on proposed changes to speed limits in urban areas across the county.

As part of a review of urban speed limits, the Council is proposing to introduce 30km/h zones outside a number of schools during school opening and closing times. Changes are also being proposed for speed limits around the New Glenamuck District Road Scheme, Glenamuck Road and Kilternan Village.

The review is being carried out to bring the county's speed limits in line with national guidelines and a 2025 Department of Transport circular on introducing lower speed limits in built-up and urban areas. The aim is to make roads safer, especially for children walking and cycling to school.

Over 20 schools across the county are included in the review, including schools in Mount Anville, Booterstown, Dundrum, Kilmacud, Killiney, Goatstown and Kilternan.

Members of the public can view the draft bye-laws and maps in person at County Hall in Dún Laoghaire and at the Dundrum Area Office, or download them online, from Monday 10 August to Friday 11 September 2026.

The Council is encouraging anyone with an interest in road safety in their area to submit feedback before the consultation closes.

Submissions will be included in a report to be presented to County Councillors at a public Council meeting, though names and email addresses will not be published.
