General News

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is encouraging local communities and stakeholders to explore funding opportunities under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS).

ORIS supports the development of new outdoor recreational infrastructure, along with the repair, maintenance, enhancement, and promotion of existing amenities in rural areas. This includes projects that support activities such as walking, hiking, cycling and kayaking.

The scheme aims to make the most of the area’s natural assets while promoting healthy, active lifestyles. It also supports the local economy by strengthening tourism opportunities and enhancing outdoor experiences for both residents and visitors.

Projects should mainly be in the countryside, not inside towns or villages. However, funding is also available for:

  • projects that link a town to outdoor facilities in the countryside
  • projects near rivers or lakes
  • water-based projects located within towns

The Council will continue to work with community groups and partners to develop and improve outdoor recreation facilities across the county.
