Fighting Words film camp

From Monday 22 July-Thursday 25 July 2019, Fighting Words hosted a free Film Camp for teenagers in dlr LexIcon. There was huge interest in the camp and the 18 participants had to be selected by lottery. Each day was scheduled tightly – Day 1 covered script writing, Day 2 shooting, Day 3 editing and Day 4 screening of the films in the LexIcon Lab for family and friends.

Students attended masterclasses by experts on topics such as film techniques, plot structure, managing a shoot and the power of the edit. They worked in groups with two Fighting Words volunteers per group – experimenting with items from a prop box, exploring the many settings at dlr LexIcon and the immediate area, constructing dialogue, reviewing shots, downloading music/sound effects and checking the rough cuts before final edits.

Our thanks to Mark Davidson and all the volunteers from Fighting Words, the invited speakers Kristian O'Neill of March on Film, Paul Freaney from IADT, Kate Dolan- Freelance Writer/Director, Patrick Healy -Freelance Filmmaker, Dave and Colm from TinyArk and above all the teenagers who created such brilliant films. See https://www.fightingwords.ie/news/film-making-camp-14-17-years to see a selection of these great shorts.

We look forward to making this Film Camp an annual event at dlr LexIcon, a great location for budding directors and filmmakers!
