Dublin Climate Action Week: Community gardens bloom in Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown
As part of Dublin Climate Action Week, Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Council is delighted to highlight a packed programme of community garden events taking place throughout the week, showcasing local climate action in practice and inviting people of all ages to learn, connect and get involved. Across the county, residents will have the opportunity to visit community gardens, take part in free workshops and talks, and learn practical skills such as rainwater harvesting, composting, container gardening and gardening on a budget. These events highlight the vital role community gardens play in supporting biodiversity, sustainable food growing, climate awareness and community wellbeing.
Speaking about the programme, Cllr Jim Gildea, Cathaoirleach of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, said:
“Dublin Climate Action Week is a wonderful opportunity to see climate action delivered locally. Our community gardens show how local initiatives can deliver real benefits for biodiversity, sustainability and social connection. I encourage people across the county to attend these open days and see this work firsthand.”
Frank Curran, Chief Executive of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, added:
“These community garden open days demonstrate that climate action can be practical, inclusive and rooted in local communities. Through Dublin Climate Action Week, we are supporting residents to build skills, share knowledge and take positive climate action together.”
