DLR recognises postal delivery staff and management for their role as frontline workers during COVID-19
Councillor Denis O’Callaghan, An Cathaoirleach, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, held a Civic Reception yesterday evening to recognise the significant contributions to the County of postal delivery workers and management as part of their role as frontline workers during COVID-19.
The reception was attended by local Councillors, staff from An Post Delivery Offices within Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown, and members & representatives from the Communications Workers’ Union.
Speaking at the event, Councillor Denis O’Callaghan, Cathaoirleach of DLR and former postal worker, said:
“The COVID-19 pandemic changed everything. People had to re-adjust to a new way of living as social distancing and isolation became the norm. Postal workers as front-line staff were key for many to remain connected to their communities. Despite having to alter their own work schedules, postal staff continued to provide delivery services across our County, keeping connectivity with every household, all while looking out for elderly and vulnerable people. The contribution made by postal workers during the COVID-19 pandemic ranks among the highest level of contribution from front-line workers. On behalf of the citizens of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown, I salute and thank each of you for your contribution to our County and the wider community.”
Frank Curran, Chief Executive, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council said:
“The Council’s work was impacted by COVID-19, much like the postal service. We worked hard to find alternative solutions and ensure essential services continued to be provided across the County. Thanks to the continued service of postal workers, Council staff were able to send and receive correspondence necessary to keep up communication internally and externally. Similar to the outreach of postal staff in partnership with ALONE, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council set up a dedicated community response helpline, connecting with the vulnerable members of our communities and ensuring they were appropriately supported.”
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown is serviced by Postal Delivery Offices in Blackrock, Churchtown, Edmondstown, Foxrock, and Glenageary.
